Facing Worlds by Cedric 'Inoxx' Fiorentino is an instant classic and a favorite
among CTF players. Is it possible to make this great map fun to play in
Domination as well? That's what DOM-Face tries to do.
DOM-Face is a Domination version of Facing Worlds, but it plays alot like an
Assault map. There is only one Control Point - it's in the "Blue Base," and the
PlayerStarts are all at the other end of the map in the "Red Base." Thus the game
consists of a continual "Assault" on the blue base. You respawn in the Red Base,
run like a madman up over the hill in the center of the map (like you were storming
a beachhead almost) and then come storming down into the blue base with rockets
blazing.
When you respawn, you can readily grab a Rocket Launcher and Shock Rifle, but
there is no ammo for these two weapons on the map, so by the time you have
blasted your way into Control, you find that you are empty handed. You begin to
sweat: the next wave of attackers will be coming over the hill in just a moment!
So you scrounge around the blue base and come up with goop and a pulse gun for
defense, along with the occasional redeemer and a sniping rifle up top. There is
only one sniper rifle on the map, and it's on the defending side. The "defending
side of the map" is somewhat under-equiped, while the attackers are flush with
rockets. This guarantees that the defenders will be defeated, and control of the
Control Point will change back and forth during the game.
This is not a typical Domination map; it is an experiment in a new kind of
gameplay. It's like "Dynamic Assault" because the attackers and defenders switch
roles throughout the game. DOM-Face plays like a battlefield. It has a story to tell,
and it unfolds at its own pace. Recommended number of players is 4-10, and a
Point Total of 100 to win makes for an epic battle, kind of like the "extended
Assault games" that people are asking for. If you play with three teams, then the
two who are losing can declare a mutual truce and gang up on the leading team, and
the game will balance itself out quite nicely (this only works with human players).
Hope you enjoy it. Please send feedback to: [email protected].
