CMX-Maker
Create error free CMX files.(For the most creative of editors and most "into" the sims). Add multiple accesories to heads or bodies.
1. Introduction
CMX Maker is a simple tool that allows you to create CMX file with just a few mouse clicks. I got tired of making CMX files by hand. This was particularly true when I was making a CMX file with multiple accessories attached. This program is a crude but effective tool for making error free CMX files.

3. Installation
The program can be run from any folder. I have it installed in:
C:\games\maxis\the sims\programs\CMXmaker
The program requires the Visual Basic 6 runtime files. The VB 6 runtime files may be downloaded from the following locations:
http://www.tweakfiles.com/misc/vb6.html
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/vbrun6.html
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp4/win98/EN-US/VBRun60sp4.exe
You may already have the VB 6 runtime files on your computer. The program also requires the file comdlg32.ocx. This file may also already be on your computer. It may be downloaded from my web site if the program fails to run.
4. Operation
The first thing that you need to do is load the base SKN file. Click on the ellipsis button (...) in the Body or Head Filename box. This will bring up a dialog box that will allow you to select the SKN file that you want to make the CMX file for.
When the SKN file is loaded the program will set the File Type option buttons automatically. The file type is set correctly 99% of the time. You should always check the file type before saving in case the program got it wrong.
At this point you can click on Save to create a CMX file without any accessories. The Save File As dialog box will come up will the file name automatically filled in. The generated name is usually correct for Maxis default bodies and heads. Feel free to name the CMX file any thing that you want to / need to.
You can add accessories to a body or head mesh by clicking on the Add button located above the accessories list. You load an accessory by clicking the ellipsis button (...) in the Accessory Model File box. Once the accessory SKN file is selected the attachment point combo box will be set according to the SKN file. If this setting is incorrect you may set the attachment point yourself. Clicking on OK will add the accessory and clicking Cancel will abort the add process.
You can delete an attached accessory by selecting the accessory and clicking the Delete button. This will remove the entry in the attachment list, not delete the file.
