After several weeks of intense composing, recording, and mixing in my basement home studio, I've completed 30 pieces of original music to fully replace the original score for the PC game TES4: Oblivion. Stylistically, the music I created is mostly classical and cinematic, using traditional orchestral instruments and occasional choir sounds via MIDI. There is plenty of ambient material. In a handful of pieces there are elements of electronica and drums, as well as a good deal of acoustic piano in others. Here's a little more detail:

Dungeons

These range from very creepy ethereal washes of sound to slow subterranean harmonies. Thief like sounds here and there and over all designed to draw you in deeper. These are 4 to 6 minutes long, considerably longer than what came with the game. The music switches to combat often underground, but extended explorations without enemies is rewarding. Which is why I recommend a mod that slows or stops respawning in dungeons. Also longer themes lend well to sneaking and trap heavy dungeons.

Battle

The battle themes are complex and appropriately in your face. They vary greatly but all should get your adrenaline flowing. They are about the same lengths as the originals (1:00 to 1:30 min)

Explore

These are the songs that play outside of towns, roaming the countryside on your horse or searching for plants. These themes are ambient yet melodic, at once beautiful and dark.

Public

The music you hear in towns and cities. Music from the Explore folder also plays at these locations. Hopefully there's some interesting variety here, without being obtrusive. Two of the pieces, Tavern Life 1 and 2 ( town_03.mp3 and town_05.mp3) are what I imagine talented medieval bar musicians would play. The instrumentation is mostly lute, recorder, and some simple percussion.

Special

The TES4 theme is here, and I came up with my own version. This plays at the menu screen. Also there are the two short pieces for the death and success screens, which I also replaced with my own. Finally there is the LauncherMusic.wav which goes in the main Oblivion folder and, yes I even replaced that. Whew!

Mashed Buddha is my solo electronica project.
