Google Forms

Embedded forms for surveys and questionnaires that are simple to deploy and integrate with popular CRM tools

Google Forms is a survey program found with the Google Suite of software. This program is very simple to use. It allows you to generate surveys, use conditional logic, randomize questions and collaborate with other users. While it works well if you need a simple survey, those who need advanced surveys might find this program too limited.

Main Features

Google Forms allows you to create simple surveys to send out to peers, users, readers and anyone else you wish to send the surveys to. Creating a survey is very easy and should only take a few minutes. You can type in questions and responses that users can choose from. Responses will then be captured and sent to you so that you can review the results.

There are several different question types to choose from. You can use radio buttons where the user can only select a single answer, checkboxes that allow users to choose one or more responses or open forms that allow users to type in an answer.

You can use conditional logic for questions. For example, you can make a certain question appear if someone clicks yes or no to the previous question. This can be handy, but it's simplistic with Google Forms. You can only do this one question at a time.

Collaboration

The entire Google Suite of software allows you to share documents with others for collaboration. Google Forms is no exception. You simple enter another user's username or email address to give them access to the survey. Unlike most other other Google software, you can't set users to either editing privileges or view only. Anyone you share the survey with will have editing privileges.

Be careful who you share this with. While it is probably unlikely that someone will intentionally sabotage the survey, it is a possibility if you share it with the wrong person.

Randomized Questions

You may want to use randomized questions so that you get different responses from people. This can be useful if you are testing out different forms of the same question. Many survey tools allow you to randomize specific questions. Google Forms does allow randomized questions, but it's either every question or none of them. This might not be ideal if you want most of the questions to remain the same for every user.

Limited Tools

Google Forms is very useful if you want to make a simple survey, but those who want to make highly advanced and customized surveys might find Google Forms too limited. The surveys are useful for students and blog owners, but those who want to make surveys for corporations or research studies might find that Google Forms doesn't have all the tools they need.

Pros

  • Completely free survey program that makes surveys in minutes.
  • There are several different question formats to choose from.
  • You can collaborate with others who can edit the form.

Cons

  • The tools are too limited for professional surveys.
