3. Frequently Asked Questions

Question: When I try to run the game, I get a message, "Missing D3D8.DLL". How do I fix it?

Answer: Go to either Microsoft's website or to the setup folder on the High Heat 2002 CD and re-install DirectX 8 from there.

Sometimes the DirectX 8 installer will fail to move this file over and you will need to re-install DX8 to fix this problem.

We also suggest that you uninstall your game, re-install the latest driver set for your video card, and then re-install the

game to ensure that the game will recognize your video card.

Question: While playing the game, I'm getting choppy, garbled or looped sound/voices; my sound card is an SBLive! or Turtle

Beach Santa Cruz- how can I fix the sound/looping issue?

Answer: You will need to enable EAX support within the High Heat 2002 game, under Preferences/Audio Preferences. If you are

still experiencing problems after enabling EAX support, please contact your computer manufacturer for DirectX 8 compliant

drivers for your sound card.

Question: I am simming games with my league. Whenever I add players to my team and continue simming, the game crashes on me.

This happens consistently in September! What's the problem?

Answer: This is an issue that is linked to promoting a minor leaguer to the Major Leagues, and possibly not totally filling up

the roster to the full 40-man team. This issue has been corrected in this patch.

Question: I'm playing a game, and notice when I'm picking players for my team that there are at least 10+ players that I

can't draft. I usually have to draft free agents and adjust their stats to match them, what's going on?

Answer: Exhibition teams rosters have 35 (minus a few depending MLBPA eligibility) REAL players. In season mode, teams all

have only 25 (minus a few depending MLBPA eligibility) REAL players. We made note of this in our advertising. You might be

able to find the missing 10 players per team using the find player utility, but MLBPA rules prevent us from throwing the

extra 10 players in AAA. There is no way, within the game itself, to gain access to the 10 extras in season mode, because of

the MLBPA ruling.

Question: Can I have a 2 Human player-controlled game? Also, can I play with two separate controllers versus keyboard only?

Answer: 2 controllers as an option is perfectly fine. If you can daisy-chain controllers, no problem. Unfortunately, some

people aren't going to have an extra game port, so you won't have the second controller available for use. In Team Settings,

the user can select Controller 1 and Controller 2 as options. Of course, if Windows isn't detecting the controllers, then

neither will the game. To test and configure your controller, click on start, settings, control panel and double click on the

game controller icon.

Question: I want a custom league, playing over the internet. How would I properly transfer the files from one player to

another in order to play via internet custom league play?

Answer: In the Team Schedule screen, the user selects a game and presses the NETPLAY button. This creates a lobby where the

host waits for the other user to connect. The other player must select NETPLAY from the MAIN MENU and join the created game.

One machine must always act as a host. That machine transfers the season file to the joiner so the game can be played. After

the game, only the file on the host's machine is updated. This is documented in the game manual starting on page 32.

Question: During game play, I notice the batter's helmet and bat are white, and the catcher's and umpire's masks are also

white. How can I change this?

Answer: You will need to turn off reflections in your Video Preferences. That will fix the problem, as some cards do not

properly support this feature. To do this, start from the MAIN MENU;

Click on the HIGH HEAT 2002 pull-down menu;

Select VIDEO PREFERENCES;

Click on the box next to "Reflections" to uncheck or turn off the Reflections feature;

Click on the [OK] button to save the change. The bolded option is the default setting.

Question: I want to change certain values in the player editor, however I usually end up with a value of 10. What's wrong?

Answer: In order to change the values, you need to delete the value in the space first, before putting in the desired value.

i.e.:

You have a setting of say 3.5. You click on the space to change it and hit the number 5. However, overwrite is not ON, so you

essentially just changed the value to 53.5. This is an illegal value, and the max is 10, so the game changes it to 10 automatically.

Question: While playing the game (Season or Exhibition) I'm getting random crashes; what is causing this?

Answer: In most cases, random crashes are due to Driver/DirectX conflicts or other system troubleshooting issues. Please

consult the Troubleshooting section of the Readme file. Right now, we are looking into other potential causes for this

problem. Also verify that your sound drivers are up to date and fully DirectX8 compatible.

Question: I have an Nvidia GeForce series card- what should I do about multiple images popping up on my screen when I hit to

the outfield?

Answer: You have a few options here. First off, make sure that you are running the latest drivers for your video card. You

can find links to most video card manufactures on our webpage.

Click on the Start Button

Then click on Run

In the Run box, type in DXDIAG in the space provided, then click OK.

When the Direct X Diagnostic tool pops up, click on the Display Tab.

You will then disable AGP Texture Acceleration. You can do this by clicking on the Disable Button under DirectX Features.

Exit out of the DirectX Diagnostic, and restart your machine, then run your game again.

You may have to re-enable AGP support for other games.

The other option, which we recommend only for advanced computer users, is to download and install the Beta drivers. We cannot

guarantee that this will be the best solution as Beta drivers tend not to support the software that comes with the video

package. We have found that some of the DVD bundle software that comes with video hardware no longer functions when Beta

drivers are installed. We recommend waiting for Nvidia to provide the actual release versions of the GeForce drivers if you

would like to have this functionality.

Also, you may want to update your AGP Controller. Below are the motherboard chipset drivers for most major brand companies.

You can check the model number of the chipsets by the following:

Click on the Start Button

Click on Settings

Then Click on Control Panel

Once the Control Panel window pops up, double click on the System Icon.

Once the System Properties windows pops up, click on Device Manager, and hit the + sign next to System Devices.

Once this opens, locate the devices "Processor to PCI bridge" or "Processor to AGP controller."

Collect the model number information just before it.

For example:

Intel 82443BX Pentiuim(r) II Processor to PCI Bridge

Viatech VT82C686 CPU to AGP conroller

Once you have located that it is either: Intel, Via, ALi, or SiS chipset, follow one of the appropriate links below.

Intel Corporation

Via Technologies, Inc.

Acer Labs Incorporated (ALi)

Silicon Intergrated Systems Corporation (SiS)

Also if you are using an AMD Processor take a look at a few of the updated drivers from Advanced Micro Devices
