Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Multiplayer TEST Readme

Thank you for your participation in the Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (ET) Multiplayer TEST. This TEST consists of one multiplayer map and represents an unsupported version of the multiplayer mode of ET. The final release version of ET will include six multiplayer maps and a full campaign mode.

We have included a Player Guide to help players get familiar with the features of Enemy Territory. You can find it in the Start Menu and in the Docs folder where you installed Enemy Territory.

This is a TEST and players may find compatibility and performance issues that will be addressed before the final release. The purpose of this test is to report these issues so that we can address them prior to the release of the game. Players should also understand that the system requirements listed below are very close to what we expect in the release version.

You can help us out by reporting any problems you experience with the Multiplayer TEST to us. So, if you have any questions, comments, or find bugs, please e-mail [email protected] or visit us at http://www.castlewolfenstein.com.

We are unable to provide customer support for players that install and play the TEST. Please do NOT call Activision Customer Support with any problems, as they will be unable to help you. Please DO let us know about the problems by emailing us at [email protected].

I. Minimum System Requirements

* Windows 98/ME/2000/XP OS (Windows NT 4.0 not recommended for clients)

* 100% Windows® 98/ME/2000/XP compatible system (including all 32bit drivers)

* Intel Pentium III 600Mhz processor or equivalent

* 128 MB RAM

* 32 MB video card

* Microsoft DirectX 8.1 or higher (not included)

* 230 MB total disk space for game files

120 MB free hard disk space for game files

110 MB free hard disk space for unpacked installation files

* 500 MB free disk space for swap file

* 100% fully OpenGL compliant 3-D video card

* For internet play, 100% Windows 98/ME/2000/XP compatible 56.6k modem or better internet connection. 56.6k modem play is not recommended for games with more than 8 players total; broadband players should be able to handle up to 32 depending on their connection with the server on which they're playing.

II. Known Issues

Crashes

- Video Restart Crash

When the end of round screen is being displayed (debriefing), the game will crash if video settings are changed that require a vid_restart (anything that needs to be applied). The gray startup console reappears with the error VM_Call with NULL vm.

- Widescreen Issues

If you run the game in widescreen, the load screen will often appear black. Also, if you choose to host a game while in widescreen mode, you will crash. Both of these will be addressed in the final game.

Interface Issues

- Functionality Not Implemented

Any red menu options represent functionality that will work in the final release version of ET but is not currently implemented in this test.

- Health Bars not Refreshing Properly

It has been noted that health bars of your teammates may not refresh in the first-person view. This will sometimes cause a Medic to try to give a teammate more health than they really need, or be unable to tell if the person is injured. This is a known bug and will be addressed for the final release.

- Console Commands

Most options that you would consider wanting to use can be set from somewhere in the UI (user interface) - from the options or controls menu, or in one of the in-game menus. Further, chances are that if an option isn't set in the UI somewhere, it's not relevant to the ET Multiplayer Map TEST. You should therefore use the UI options instead of console commands to set options wherever possible. Console commands may produce unexpected results and should generally be avoided.

- Spectating Error

If you are spectating when the round is over, you will be taken to the 'Esc' menu rather than the normal debriefing screen. If this happens, just press 'Esc' to close the menu and return to the debriefing screen.

- Ready Button

If you press the 'Ready' button on the debriefing screen, the button goes away because you can't undo it.

- Chat Button

On the debriefing screen the toggle button "To Global, To Team, and To Fireteam" will switch between who will see your chat messages. It does not filter the list for you.

- Debriefing Artwork

The debriefing screens you see at the end of the match are placeholder and will be replaced with more in-depth statistics and improved art in the final version.

- Mortar Triangulation

When the Field OpS drops a smoke canister, this marks the crosshair for soldiers carrying a Mortar. Currently, this only marks the horizontal axis, not the vertical. This will be fixed for the final release.

- Missing Mortar Hits

When the Mortar is fired, marks are made on the command map to enable targeting. Sometimes the marks don't show up. This will be fixed in the final release.

- Cursor Locks

Cursor arrow sometimes locks in Limbo. This seems to happen very rarely and randomly. If this happens to you we suggest that you exit out of Limbo and continue to play your current selection. This will be fixed in the final release.

Server Issues

- Saving Server Options

Please be aware that no create server options are saved until you actually hit "Accept" and start a server. If you make changes to the server settings and then don't start the server, you'll lose your changes. Saving on the Advanced Server Settings screen will not be affected by changes you make on this screen as they are saved separately.

- Max Players

The maximum number of players for the ET Multiplayer TEST is 32 total and 16 for each side; the server host can set this to a lower number from the Multiplayer/Create Server menu. It is highly recommended that these numbers are not exceeded. In games that include players using dial-up connections, no more than 8 players are recommended.

- Auto-Update

Auto-update functionality may not be reliable in the test but will be in the final version.

- Server Browser

The server browser does not support the use of the ARROW keys and ENTER for selecting servers - this should be dealt with in the final release.

Graphics Issues

- 32-bit vs. 16-bit Color Depth

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory defaults to 32-bit color. You may change this setting to 16-bit, but it is not officially supported. If you decide to make this change, you may notice graphics problems and artifacts on your screen. Also, during preliminary testing, there was not much of a performance increase by making this switch. Please do so at your own risk.

- Double Brownings

Sometimes when a player jumps into the Tank, the browning gun appears twice (once as part of the tank, and also as part of the player). This will be fixed for the final release.

- Missing Fireteam Icons

You cannot recognize who is on your fireteam from the regular game view. In the final game, members of your fireteam will have an icon on the back of their helmet, and when selected the icon will be over their head to distinguish them.

In-game Issues

- Grenade Physics

The grenade physics will not perform as you may remember from Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This was an intentional addition and was implemented this way so that the thrower's velocity was translated into the throw. This is important to deal with throwing grenades from moving objects (like the tank in Fueldump).

- Fireteam Member Selection

Only Fireteam leaders (the person who creates the fireteam) can individually select members of the team. This is a bug. In the final game, all members of the team will be able to select members to deliver specific chat messages.

- Fireteam Chat Selection

Sending a message to just one member of your fireteam will be transmitted to everyone on the fireteam if it is a global message (not class specific). If it is class specific, all members of your fireteam that are that class will hear it. This is not the intended functionality.

- Fireteam Selection

You are automatically placed into a fireteam. In the final version, you will be given an option.

- Missing Call-votes

The following call-votes will not work, unless done by a referee: Reset Match, Warm-up Damage, Game Type.
