Carmageddon TDR 2000 is set in the not too distant future, in a world made up of privately controlled segregated towns called 'Subates'. These are places where, as long as you had the money, you could live an ideal life with no fears. With unlimited corporate funding, the Subates's own private police forces have grown rapidly, maintaining law and order at their own convenience and being generally lazy and ineffectual.

If you were one of the unfortunates to be left behind or born into the ghettos (the cities were deserted by the wealthy in their escape to suburban paradise) your future was bleak and in all likelihood very short. Inevitably, after years of growing hatred in this world of inequality, the violence escalated until the very future of the Subates was threatened.

It soon became apparent that unless drastic action was taken, the Subates luxurious lifestyle would be affected, a lifestyle that the Subates had paid well to preserve. The private security forces decided that an example must be set, in the form of strategic tactical nuclear missiles. Millions of innocent civilians were killed in the slaughter, they were the lucky ones. The survivors of the apocalypse were no longer classed as human. Riddled with fallout and radiation poisoning they resembled the walking dead, with no hope and no reprieve.

In the anarchy that was spawned as a result of this desolate future, sporadically organised gangs would make frequent and savage attacks on the paradise that was the Subates. The security forces decided that they would have to contain the problem - literally. The idea was to isolate the under classes by walling in the ghettos, creating a virtually city size prison - a prison run by criminals, gangs and corrupt police officers alike, all with a kill or be killed survival instinct.

Eventually the task was finished and humanity was divided - permanently. The Subates could once again relax into their routine of coffee mornings and peaceful Sunday afternoons, whilst the rest of humanity suffered in their own post-nuclear hell with no possibility of hope. This is the world you must escape from… this is the world of Carmageddon TDR 2000.
