Spin Half
Spin Half is a Quake Team Fortress map that is a (tiny) bit bigger than it looks. Travel one way round a circular corridor, and you'll never find what you're looking for. Drop below into the sewers, and end up at the top of the map.
This is the first release of my first Quake map, Spin Half. The name comes from subatomic particles, where something takes two spins (720 degrees) on any axis to appear as it was when it started. Two things in the map make this name appropriate:
1) a circular corridor (actually two) which appears to take almost two complete traversals to end back at the same place.
2) a waterfall / sewer at the bottom of the level. Going down the waterfall causes you to end up at the top of the level.
A few more features are present to make the map a bit more interesting:
* "jump pads" in the main arena. Walk over them to be launched up into the air (or launch a grenade up).
* variable speed water current - gets faster as you get closer to the waterfall
* timed trapdoor - anyone underneath can work out when it will open
* speed lift - travelling down could be harmful to your health
* wind blasts underneath a grille - make the ground appear a lot further away than it really is
* fall pit - gives everyone a boost of energy when a new person arrives
* windows - look across from the respawn to where you want to go without being hit by stray bullets
The goal is to take the flag from the bottom of the arena to the top of the fall pit. Once you make a capture, everyone nearby loses all their armour and a bit of health, a perfect opportunity to get those frags.
Note : the speed lift is meant to squash someone that is underneath it. Unfortunately, it's a bit too quick and pushes them through the floor into the sewer below. If I get around to a revision, this will be fixed.
