This is a technolagy release of a Eduke Tc. There are 3 levels, the first full level, most of the second level & a demonstration map. You'll need Eduke to play this.

this release. BTW, don't worry, there's gonna be a lot more action in Future versions of

Survival, a hell of a lot :) .......

Story:

I Remember the Day it happened. The one, single day that would change humanity. A cloudy, warm, summer's day.

Sitting at my usual spot, near the Garmid Research center. The constant hum of computers helped me work on my laptop.

Unaware was I that the Whole world would end in just 4 Hours. An E-mail sign blinked on the lower corner of my screen.

I opened it, & it read:

JAMES

Get down to my Labs immediately, something's come up

BRIAN

Brian, my work college. Ever since the New Laws came into place we worked together developing misc. Computer related technology. I hurried down to the lab, Floor 7 on Sector 5B. Brian had a distinctive look of fear on his face. I saw flashing

On the Computer screen, 4HRS TILL IMPACT. Something was heading towards us, something big. Brian started to Explain.

"The Global satellite picked up a signal coming from the Jupiter area. They ignored it, stating it was a fluke, But

I disbelieved them. "

"The Global what?" I had to cut in

"A satellite that any member of the public can use. A cheaper way to get rid of space junk. You buy the Password, then log

On to the Government computer & use the Satellite to gather any info you need"

"Right"

"Anyway, I investigated this signal, and a large ship is heading towards Earth. Trouble is, I can't determine whether it's

Going to hit us, or miss completely"

"Is this ship heading towards us on purpose?"

"I can't tell, but the power reading is very high, & if that thing hit's Earth."

"Total destruction. The Ship's generators will probably Meltdown." I knew what was going to happen

"Spreading Radiation across the globe...Good God..."

"& That's not the Half of it, if it crashes into the Atlantic..."

"It'll create a Mega-Tsunami that'll wipe out almost all life."

"& it may cause Nuclear winter too Brian"

We stood there. I didn't know if this was all a Joke, or dead serious. Better yet, Tell the Goverment or not?

The fate of humanity rested on our shoulders, all down to this simple question. What if I informed them, & it

Didn't even come close to us? I would look like a fool, & Panic would spread over the world, for nothing.

"What should we do?" my collegue asked

"Play the Waiting game" I answered

He knew as well as I that there was absolutely nothing we could do. We were just two people in a huge

Place called Earth. I was unaware that this was the worst decision I had chosen in my Life. If I would have told the Goverment,

They could have confirmed it in, maybe an hour or so? Sent a few nukes's & blast it out of path, away from Earth. Or even warn

Everyone, to talk shelter. Wouldn't do anygood, but reassures everyone.

3 Hours later, I knew the End would come. In the Darkening sky, you could see the ships mass hulk, on flames, cruising towards Earth. I heard Brian behind me

"Good god..."

"That ship must of been blown up or something, & now it's gonna crash into us"

We were standing on the 2nd Roof of Garmid. We heard Screams, People shouting, "Look!"

I turned to watch the main Screen; one of many around Garmid, normally showing adverts, but this time showing

The President of Garmid & the various important officials who run the world. There was a moment of silence as the President

Spoke

"People of Earth. As you may know, a large object from space is heading towards Earth. We have tried to change its course

With missiles, yet it has failed..."

Brian cut in "That's why it was on flames...."

"But in this hour of foreboding, we have one hope, that this ship may miss us, that it will go off course.

No matter what happens though, we must remember one thing, that we must have hope. I wish you all luck in

This Final hour...goodbye"

Suddenly uproar came from the crowd, people shouting & screaming, running in all directions.

I filled with panic, Brian the same. Our world was going to be almost wiped out in an Hour, no... 50 minutes

"James! We have to hide! Go underground!" Brian started babbling

I shook my head with disagreement.

"What!?!"

"If we go underground, then we'll be flooded", but if we stay here, the Radiation will get us..."

"So..."

"Our answer is mount Rilj"

"Are you crazy!? The chances of us taking of in these conditions are..."

"No, Not the Spaceport, somewhere else"

It was another 10 minutes before we were packed. A spread of Panic formed over me. What if we don't get there?

"I must have hope," I said to myself

I explained to Brian why Mount Rilj was the ideal place to go.

"Years ago a Bunker was built there, yet no one used it. In the end it was abanded, nobody using it"

"So we're going there?"

"Yep. It's the best place I can think of"

20 minutes to go. The Ship loomed up in the sky, the fire now falling to Earth. It was going to hit us all right. & Hard.

The Horror of the situation struck me around 5 minutes ago when I first saw it in Full. But yet, some unknown

Force was pulling me towards this shelter, protecting me.

By the time I got there, there was 15 minutes left. I ran to the Door, & unlocked it with a Lock device we had created.

It was an Elevator. We moved for what seemed an eternity, but were only 3 minutes. We arrived, & locked the Elevator Door.

I glanced around. The Bunker was shiny, & had a distinctive cold feel come to it. The lights were embedded to the Walls.

There were 6 Beds, all medium size. There were two Heavy doors near the End.

"Hope that's the Toilet"

There were also, to my surprise, 3 people sat on the far bed. They turned to face us. I recognized the 3rd one straight away.

"Peter!" Brian shouted

"James?! Brian!? What are you doing here!?"

"I read about this place a few weeks ago" I replied

"As for me, I..." Peter was cut off by a rumbling

I checked my watch. 2 minutes. 2 minutes till doom.

"Oh my god..."

Normally I would of Panicked, but I didn't. It was like my Emotions had been plugged up. The others were terrified.

The Rumbling got a lot louder, & I checked my watch again. 1 & a half minutes. I gritted my teeth. 1 Minute

"I don't want to die!" Screamed somebody. The rumbling was too loud to determine whom it came from.

30 seconds.

"No!"

20 seconds

The rumbling was deafening now, the room trembling slightly. This shelter was Good

15 seconds

The room trembled slightly more. Correction. This shelter is damn good

10 seconds

Images raced in my head. My life, before I knew of this. I didn't know

Whether I was going to survive or not.

5 Seconds

My mind shouted at me "I have to Survive!"

0

There was a few more seconds, then it hit.

The whole world shook with a terrific force. It hit. This was the end.

Or so I thought. I came to later. To find the Room in the same state as before, except from a few walls.

The Metal had buckled, leaving huge Dents. I looked around for the others, before I realized I was bleeding.

I heard a mumble, & the shape of Brian rose from behind a bed. Soon the others rose too.

"We're, we're alive...It's a miracle!"

"I can't believe it, we, we S."

"Survived" I cut in.

The word danced around in my head, forming a trophy, a flame, a title that fit into the end of my name,

James Stanfield the Survivor.

I liked the sound of that. A title that would live in my head forever.

It stayed there, even though I knew this shelter helped me survive.

I walked to the elevator & pressed the button.

"Don't go up there! There could be Radiation & god knows wha..."

The Elevator noise cut him off & I traveled to the top. The Door slid open, & I stepped outside.

Earth was here. Mount Rilj was here. I was here. I looked into the distance. I could barely

See Garmid, or what remained of it. I glanced into the other direction, & saw a destroyed land.

Buildings, cities had been wiped out. I traveled back down the elevator & delivered the news.

I realize that something other then the Bunker saved us that Day. As we set off into the Distance, to search for any more Survivors, I had a feeling something else was coming. The thought made me stand for a second. Was that just a scout ship?

Was there an even Bigger ship coming, that would totally destroy Earth, Reduce it mere rubble, or was it just me being paranoid? I didn't know that in a Months time, A ship would once again head for Earth, but not on a Collision course. That it would be host to an Army of Aliens. Evil Aliens. Who I knew too well. The Pitfiends. And that in just two week's time, I will be locked in a Small war against the Mutants. Yet, in a week's time, this small group of Survivors would have built a Small settlement. & Started a Fight. A fight...to Survive.

* Construction *

Base : New level from scratch

Construction Time : around 2 to 3 months (December 2001 - Febuary 2002)

Known Bugs/Problems : Small HOM effects around the the two buildings

Few bugs with footstep sounds, will be Fixed

Artwork for Main charecter needs to be finished

A few others, will be fixed

Installation : Place this in your Eduke Directory & double click on Surival test.bat

Important Notes : You may not use this Map or Artfiles as a base for others. All .art files beginning with the Jsgames tile is (c) Jsgames, & you may not use it. If you wish to use my Code, Please E-mail me first.

You may distribute this tech demo on your site .You'll need Eduke to run this level.

Survival Test will not work with the Shareware versions of Duke, so don't try (surely you must of gotten

the full version by now!?! it's 2003!) It won't work with v1.3 either. Please feel free to make maps

for this Tech release, & E-mail them to me too if you want.
