Notice
This PATCH README.DOC is part of a distribution of the FINAL 1.01 patch for the original 1.0
retail version of Fly!. This release is functionally complete for all issues considered for the 1.01
patch.
This version of Fly! supports ROGER WILCO™ and acknowledges the use of the ROGER
WILCO™ technology.
Installation - Full Patch (if you have any version prior to 1.01.86 currently installed)
Very Important: You must apply this patch to a clean, factory 1.0 install of the Fly! application. If
you have applied previous patches, or any third party add-on scenery or aircraft, it is strongly
recommended that you back up the Fly! directory, uninstall the Fly! directory, delete all files, and
re-install Fly! from the original factory disks. Once installation and application of the 1.01.87 patch
is complete and you have verified that Fly! is working properly, then and only then should you
begin introducing add-on products back into the Fly! directories.
The 1.01 patch has three distinct files as described below:
RunMe1st.exe - This executable is run first to prepare the Fly! patch
installation and remove outdated files. It must be run
on the factory 1.0 install of Fly!.
FlyPatch101Final.exe - This is the mandatory portion of the patch. This
updates the FLY.EXE file, as well as program
databases and aircraft. You must run this patch tool
to successfully install the 1.01.87 patch.
FlyPatch101Optional.exe - This is an optional patch. This updates the global
elevation mesh, as well as roads and rivers. If you
typically fly in areas outside the satellite scenery
areas, this should improve elevation changes such
as mountain ranges.
Please follow the steps below in exact sequence for proper installation:
Re-install Fly! 1.0 from your retail CD-ROM's. Make sure you have moved or deleted any
third party-add on products until AFTER the 1.01 patch has been applied.
Double-click the RunMe1st.exe file. This will cleanup and remove any outdated files.
This must be run first before applying the main patch.
(2.1) RunMe1st will need to know where Fly! has been installed on your system.
Click the "Locate" button to browse to and locate the FLY.EXE file on your
system. Double-click the FLY.EXE file to select the current directory. You
should see the complete path for Fly! displayed in the dialog.
(2.2) Click the "Prepare" button to perform cleanup and preparation for the patch.
(2.3) Click the "Done" button to exit.
Double-click the patch tool named FlyPatch101Final.exe. This will automatically
update each of your factory files and .EXE to the new 1.01.87 version.
If desired, download and double-click the FlyPatch101Optional.exe. This will update
your global elevation mesh, roads, and river databases.
Once you have run the RunMe1st.exe program, it is now time to apply the patch itself. Double-
click the file FlyPatch101.exe. This will apply all changes since 1.00.73 to update your application
to 1.01.87. This includes all previous patch fixes since the 1.00.73 retail release.
After the FlyPatch101 tool has completed, if you chose to download the optional scenery patch,
you should run it now. Double-click the FlyPatch101Optional.exe file, and the generic scenery
elevation mesh data, as well as road and river data, will be patched.
That's it! You can confirm you are running the patched version by choosing About Fly! from the
Help menu. From there, you should see the version 1.01.87, instead of the retail 1.00.73.
Beginning with the 1.00.75 version of the patch, a \HowTo directory will be created in your Fly!
directory which contains Adobe .PDF format files documenting various systems in the aircraft of
Fly! The contents of this directory will be expanded with each future update from Terminal
Reality. Please refer to these .PDF files for additional information not covered in your owner's
manual. You must have the latest version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view these
files. This reader can be freely downloaded from
http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html.
Installation - Patching version .86 to version .87 (Final Release)
Very Important: You must apply this patch to the 1.01.86 patched version of Fly! If you do not
already have the .86 patched version of Fly!, you need to download and install FlyPatch101.EXE
as described in the Full Patch installation section.
The patch from version .86 to .87 patch has two distinct files as described below:
FlyPatch86toFinal.exe This is the mandatory portion of the patch. This
updates the FLY.EXE file and the patch101.epd file.
You must have patched version .86 installed before
trying to apply this patch or the patch will fail. You
must run this patch tool to successfully install the
1.01.87 final patch.
FlyPatch101Optional.exe This is an optional patch. This updates the global
elevation mesh, as well as roads and rivers. If you
typically fly in areas outside the satellite scenery
areas, this should improve elevation changes such
as mountain ranges. You must have a factory fresh
install of the global elevation data for this patch to
work. You can not patch the previous patched
version of the global elevation data.
Problems Fixed
This patch addresses the following issues:
03/09/2000 (1.01.87) Final Master
- The scenery detail level designated in the Graphic options dialog was not being
honored, and scenery was always set to "Complex", causing frame rate issues for
some users; fixed.
- DME indications for the King Air and Hawker were not functioning correctly; fixed.
- GeForce video card files (.VCF) added to allow for running Fly! without using AGP
textures, which greatly increases the amount of available textures.
- A new TNT2 Ultra .VCF file added for a new card vendor.
- Taxiway.epd always loads last, allowing 3rd party developers to override factory
default taxiways with custom taxiways.
