Fly! Database Import Tool (Macintosh)
The dbimport tool allows for easy importing of database changes from scenery designers, without the use of the Fly! Editor. By providing a database extract file (.DEX) for importing, dbimport will automatically determine which Fly! pod files are affected, automatically extract those files, apply the database changes, rebuild the database indexes, and recreate the appropriate pod files.
Fly! Database Import Tool (dbimport)
Version 1.00, 04/18/2000
Overview
===================
The dbimport tool allows for easy importing of database changes from scenery designers,
without the use of the Fly! Editor. By providing a database extract file (.DEX) for importing,
dbimport will automatically determine which Fly! pod files are affected, automatically
extract those files, apply the database changes, rebuild the database indexes, and
recreate the appropriate pod files.
This tool is being released for both the PC and Macintosh. The PC version comes in two
varieties, one as a user-friendly dialog based tool (equivalent to the Macintosh version),
and another for command-line processing, the latter being useful for installer batch files or
automated scripting of database updates. You should download and place each
executable in the same directory as the Fly! executable.
For PC users: Download and extract dbimport.zip to the Fly! directory.
For Mac users: Download and extract dbimport.sit to the Fly! folder.
Importing Data
===================
On the PC, you will use the "dbimport.exe" executable for the user friendly version of the tool,
or "dosmport.exe" for the command line version of the tool. On the Macintosh, you will use
the "Import DB" application.
To use, launch the dbimport (or Import DB) program. You will be presented with a dialog with
an Import button. Click the Import button, then navigate to and open the desired database
extract file (.DEX). Dbimport will automatically import and rebuild the databases as needed.
When you are finished, click the Done button.
For the command-line version, simply launch dosmport.exe with the pathname of the file you
wish to import like this: dosmport c:\temp\filename.dex.
Support
===================
This is an unsupported product, and is offered AS IS as a service to the Fly! community.
Please do not contact Gathering of Developers or Terminal Reality for support.
