BR Version of Acid Pipe Xmas

This is the BR of our traditional Dead Cat Christmas map. Just because we enjoy fragging each other doesn't mean we don't like having fun in the process. With the holiday season quickly approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to get it out a little early this year and extend the Xmas cheer a little longer.

Seasons Greetings to All,

This is our traditional Dead Cat Christmas map. Just because we enjoy fragging each other doesn't mean we don't like having fun in the process. With the holiday season quickly approaching, I thought it would be a good idea to get it out a little early this year and extend the Xmas cheer a little longer.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This map was expressly designed to be run on Low Gravity servers. Many of the verticals are based on the height of the Low-G double-jump. The size of Acid Pipe Xmas is intended to be an offset to the power and very long range of the new Translocator in Low-G. If you run this maps with the bots set to "Adept" or above, they will use all of the Jump Spots and translocate points...and most likely kick your behind in the process...:-)

The XMaps.int file contains all of the original descriptions for the Epic maps plus all of the other Dead Cat maps. It will not over-write anything that came with the game. This map was compiled using the 2126 Beta patch, so the "Description Text" is also compiled into the map. After the official patch is released, the back-story in the menu...which I hope you find as amusing as I do...will be there with or without the XMaps.int files in your system directory.

By now you realize how huge this sucker is. Well, CliffyB and crew only included snow and ice textures for terrain based stuff so I had to reskin a bunch of static meshes. Consequently, the .ut2 file is around 23Mbs and the music file is around another 5Mbs for a grand total of over 28Mbs...Look at it this way; sometimes more actually is better. Finally, if you don't like fragging people to Bing Crosby Chrsitmas tunes, then this is not the map for you...;-)

The map runs quite well on the following rig at 1280x1024 with all other settings turned up to maximum:

Athlon XP-1800 CPU

Leadtek A250 GeForce4 Ti4600

512Mbs of DDR RAM

Nothing is overclocked.

The map runs acceptably on the following rig at 1024x768 with all other settings turned to normal except "World Detail" which is set to "High"...Anything lower than "High" and the snow will not work:

Athlon 1.2Ghz CPU

Xtasy GeForce2 Ti

512Mbs of SDRAM

Nothing is overclocked.

If you have anything weaker than that, you will almost certainly drop below 20 frames in the Center Core Zone unless you reduce the resolution to 800x600...Then it will run on almost anything.

To use Acid Pipe Xmas-DCSE, please do the following:

.1) Unzip the BR-AcidPipeXmas-DCSE.ut2 file into your ut2003\maps directory

.2) Unzip the XmasPipe.ogg file into your ut2003\music directory

.3) Move or make a back-up copy of the XMaps.int file in ut2003\system directory

.4) Unzip the XMaps.int file into your ut2003\system directory after you've finished with number 3 above

Please send comments on the maps to: [email protected]

Special thanks to Epic and DE for making a great game and a great...albeit slightly buggy...editor for us to play with.

Thanks to Zeratul for the original layout of Acid Pipe...and very special thanks to Balefire and Sabertooth for bugging me and getting me to do the map early this year.
