Files

CRAPS.PRC (main shareware program file)

CRAPS.TXT (this text file)

CRAPSNH.PRC (registered program with no on-line help)

NOTE: YOU SHOULD DELETE VERSIONS PRIOR TO 1.0 BEFORE INSTALLING THIS ONE!

The internal database has changed and your Pilot will probably crash if

you don't. If you already registered an earlier version, your same

registration code will work with this update. If you have version 1.0x,

you do not need to delete it, and registration and game-state information

will be remembered.

DO NOT INSTALL BOTH .PRC FILES AT THE SAME TIME. I have recieved entirely

too much email from people who say they can't get into the program without

a registration code and they want to try it out. THAT IS WHAT THE CRAPS.PRC

FILE IS FOR.

The CRAPSNH.PRC file is the exact same program but without the on-line

help files, thus it is about 11K smaller. It is the registered version,

and when started will display a dialog box prompting you for a

registration code. Once the code is properly entered, the program will

run without a shareware reminder. CRAPSNH.PRC will not run at all unless a

valid registration code is entered. If you would still like to have access

to the on-line help files, reload CRAPS.PRC *without*deleting* CRAPSNH.PRC.

The registration code is remembered, and the reminder will not be displayed.

You may also enter the registration code in the Help menu of CRAPS.PRC, so

you don't have to install both if you only want the one with all the help.

Registration is $12 US. To register, email me at [email protected].

Include your name and the version of CasinoCraps you wish to register.

I will then email to you the registration code within 24 hours. Note that

this process involves me trusting you to actually send the $12. I am sure

this honor system will work out to everyone's benefit. If I get large

numbers of registering email but not many corresponding payments, I will

probably change the system. Mail a check or money order for $12 US to:

THANKS FOR REGISTERING!

Quick Start

Tap on the dice box to roll. Once a point is established it is shown by a

dash above the large numbers. Tap on the table layout to make a bet. The

first tap makes the bet in the default amount, subsequent taps increment

the bet (unless making or changing that particular bet is not allowed).

To make an odds bet, tap on the main box for that bet after the point is set.

An odds bet can be made automatically by setting the Default X Odds in the

Defaults menu. The default is 0 (no automatic odds). Place bets and Come Odds

can be called Working on the come-out roll by selecting Working from the Bets

menu. They stay working until toggled back off. Selecting All Down from the

Bets menu will remove all bets except the main Pass line and the main Come

bet for come points (only their odds are removed).

The status line has 4 boxes. The first box is a text area showing dice

totals, etc. The second box shows the amount of the last bet made or

selected. The third box shows the odds (if applicable) on the last bet made

or selected. The last box shows the total score. When a bet is made, it is

hilighted on the table. To view a particular bet, tap on the text (leftmost)

box, then tap anywhere on the table. The bet amount and odds for that bet are

shown in the status line. Tapping on the status box that displays the bet or

odds amount allows editing the amount. Editing bets or odds is only possible

when it is legal to do so during the game. To toggle between displaying the

total as the current amount less the bets that are on the table, tap on the

total status box. To toggle a dialog box that shows the results of each bet,

select Results from the Game menu. Short Results toggles a single dialog box

giving the total amount won and lost on the roll. To toggle sound, select

Sound from the Game menu.

The betting limit is $5 to $2500, with 20X odds, with certain exceptions on

minimum bets. The maximum and minimum bet amounts, and maximum and default

odds, and the starting bankroll for new games can be set in the Defaults

menu. $1 minimums: Any Craps; Any Seven; Hard 4, 10, 6, and 8; 2, 3, 11,

and 12; $2 minimum on C and E; $4 minimum on Horn. All winning bets stay on

the table, all loosing bets are removed.

How to Play

The dice are rolled until a point is established. The point can be the 4, 5,

6, 8, 9, or 10. If a 2, 3, or 12 (craps) is rolled before a point is set,

the dice lose, if a 7 or 11 is rolled before a point is set, the dice win.

(All rolls before a point is set are called come-out rolls.) Once the point

is set, the dice win only if the point is rolled before the 7. If the 7 is

rolled before the point, the dice lose. No other numbers matter except for

the point and the 7 after the point is set.

PASS LINE

A bet on the pass line is a bet that the dice will win. The bet must be made

before a point is set (i.e. on a come-out roll). Once the point is made, the

bet cannot be changed or removed. It pays 1 to 1 if the dice win.

PASS LINE ODDS

An odds bet on the pass line can be made after the point is set. It is won

or lost with the pass line bet. The payoff on the odds bet depends on which

number is the point. For the 4 and 10 the payoff is 2 to 1, for the 5 and 9

the payoff is 3 to 2, for the 6 and 8 the payoff is 6 to 5. For this reason,

odds bets on the 5 and 9 should be in made in increments of 2, and on the 6

and 8 should be in increments of 5. With no odds, the house edge is 1.4%,

with 2X odds it is 0.6%, and with 20X odds it is 0.1% ('House edge' is the

difference between the actual odds of winning and what the house pays.)

Example: $5 is bet on the pass line, and a point of 5 is set. An odds bet

of $6 is made. If the 5 is rolled before the 7, $5 will be won on the pass

line bet and $9 on the odds.

DON'T PASS

A bet on the don't pass line is a bet that the dice will lose. If a 2 or 3

is rolled before a point is set, the bet wins (on a 12 the bet neither wins

nor loses - hence the 'bar 12' designation). If a 7 or 11 is rolled before

the point is set, the bet loses. After the point is set, if a 7 is rolled

before the point the bet wins, if the point is rolled before the 7 the bet

loses. It pays 1 to 1.

DON'T PASS ODDS

An odds bet on the don't pass can be made after the point is set. It is won

or lost with the don't pass line bet. For the 4 and 10 the payoff is 1 to 2

(a $10 odds bet will win $5), for the 5 and 9 the payoff is 2 to 3, for the

6 and 8 the payoff is 5 to 6. The house edge is almost identical to the pass

line (1.4% with no odds, 0.5% with 2X odds, 0.065% with 20X odds).

COME (with ODDS)

A come bet is almost identical to a pass line bet except that it can only be

made after a point is set. After the bet is made the sequence of rolls works

exactly like a pass line bet. The only difference is that come odds aren't

working on a come-out roll. Example: A point of 5 is set, and a come bet

made. The dice are rolled 6, 4, 8, 8, 5, 6, 7. The first 6 sets the come

point of 6. The 5 wins for the pass line. The next roll is a 6, and this

wins for the come bet. However, since it was a come-out roll any odds on

the come bet are returned. Come bets have the same house edge as pass line

bets.

DON'T COME (with ODDS)

A don't come bet is almost identical to a don't pass bet except that it,

like a come bet, can only be made after a point is set. Like don't pass,

once the don't come point is set, if that number comes up before the 7 the

bet loses. If the 7 comes up before the don't come point the bet wins. Like

don't pass, a 12 rolled before a don't come point is set has no effect on

the bet (2 or 3 wins, 7 or 11 loses). Unlike come bet odds, odds on a don't

come bet are working on a come-out roll. Don't come bets have the same house

edge as don't pass bets.

PLACE BETS and BUYS

Place bets can be made, changed, or removed at any time, however they are

not working on a come-out roll. Place bets on the 4 and 10 pay 9 to 5, on

the 5 and 9 pay 7 to 5, and on the 6 and 8 pay 7 to 6. These payoffs are

different than the correct odds (which are 2 to 1, 3 to 2, and 6 to 5

respectively) and this results in a house edge of 6.67% on the 4 and 10,

4% on the 5 and 9, and 1.52% on the 6 and 8. The house edge can be reduced

to 4.7% on the 4 and 10 by making a Buy bet which will pay the 4 and 10 at

the true odds of 2 to 1. However, a 5% commission must be paid (hence the

'buy'); but because the house will usually round 1.25 down to 1, a $25 bet

will only have a $1 vig, making the house edge even lower. The vig must be

paid even if the bet loses.

LAY BETS

A lay bet is like a place bet, but it a a bet against the number (that a 7

will be rolled before the number). Unlike place bets, they are always

working. They pay at true odds (1 to 2 for the 4 and 10, 2 to 3 for the

5 and 9, and 5 to 6 for the 6 and 8), but a 5% vig must be paid to get

these odds. The house edge is 2.4% on the 4 and 10, 3.2% on the 5 and 9,

and 4% on the 6 and 8. Unlike buy bets, the %5 is paid on the amount of

the expected payoff, not the amount bet. The vig must be paid even if the

bet loses. Example: a $40 lay bet on the 4 will pay $20, and the vig is $1,

5% of $20.

FIELD

A field bet will win or lose on every roll of the dice. It will lose if a 5,

6, 7, or 8 is rolled, every other number wins. The 2 and 12 pay off at 2 to

1, the other numbers pay off at 1 to 1. The house edge is 5.5%

BIG 6 and 8

This bet will pay 1 to 1 if the number (6 or 8) comes up before the 7.

However, the true odds are 6 to 5, so the house edge is 9%

HARDWAYS

A 'hard' number is what many people in other dice games call a 'double'

(e.g. 6 being rolled as two 3's instead of a 1 and 5, or 2 and 4, which are

called 'easy'). A hardway bet is a bet that the number will come up hard

before it comes up easy and before the 7. The 4 and 10 pay off at 7 to 1

(the true odds are 8 to 1, so the house edge is 11%), and the 6 and 8 pay

off at 9 to 1 (the true odds are 10 to 1, so the house edge is 9%).

Sometimes these are labled '10 for 1' and '8 for 1', but the payoff is

the same.

ANY CRAPS

This is a one-roll bet that the next number rolled will be 2, 3, or 12. It

pays 7 to 1. The true odds are 8 to 1, so the house edge is 11% This is

sometimes called a 'craps check' when made on a come-out roll.

ANY SEVEN

This is a one-roll bet that the 7 will be rolled next. It pays 4 to 1, but

the true odds are 5 to 1, so the house edge is 16.7%

2, 3, 11, 12

These are one-roll bets that the number will be come up next. The 2 and 12

pay at 30 to 1, but the true odds are 35 to 1, so the house has a 13.9% edge.

The 3 and 11 pay at 15 to 1, but the true odds are 17 to 1, with a 11% house

edge. Usually the only one of these that gets much action is the 11, called

a 'yo' or 'yo-leven,' with the bettor throwing his chips to the dealer and

calling out 'Five Dollar Yo!'

HORN

The Horn bet is a 4-way bet on the 2,3,11, and 12. If either number is

rolled, the bet for that number wins, but the whole bet stays. Since the

other three actually lost, they are taken out of the winnings in order to

stay. A 'horn high' bet is a horn bet with an amount not divisible by 4

and the remainder being placed on the number designated by the bettor.

Example: a $5 horn high 2, would place $1 on the 3, 11, and 12, and $2

on the 2. Horn high designations are not necessary in CasinoCraps, since

the same result is easily made directly on the table.

C and E

The C and E bet is a two-way bet on Any Craps and the 11. If either bet wins,

the other loses, so the loss is taken out of the winnings, since the whole

bet stays. In a casino a 'yo' bet is usually indicated on the 'E' of the

'C and E'.

The Horn bet is a 4-way bet on the 2,3,11, and 12. If either number is

rolled the bet for that number wins, but the whole bet stays. Since the

other three actually lost, they are taken out of the winnings in order

to stay. The C and E bet is a two-way bet on Any Craps and the 11. If

either bet wins, the other loses, so the loss is taken out of the winnings.

The 5% vig (commission) on Buy bets is calculated on the amount of the bet.

The 5% vig on the Lay bets is calculated on the expected payoff, not the

amount bet. Vigs are taken out of winnings, but if the bet loses the vig

is charged as a loss.

CHANGES----------

1.1

Sigh. Turns out there was a bug in the "manual odds" increment for Don't

Come bets. DC 10 also had a funky auto-odds bug. Both have been squashed.

1.02

Fixed the Come bet transfer. (When there was already a come point, another

come bet was made, and then that number was rolled winning the come point

bet and establishing the new come point bet, the auto-odds feature didn't

work.) Also made sure that default amounts on the odds for the 6 and 8 were

in increments of $5 (pays 6 to 5), and the place bets were in increments

of $5 for the 4,5,9, and 10, and $6 for the 6 and 8. Automatic odds for

Don't Pass and Don't Come are also similarily verified.

1.01

Fixed the way the Defaults dialog box handles a blank entry - just like

Cancel. In 1.0 a blank entry was treated as a '0'.

1.0 (final release)

Tons of new features! The Working toggle now affects Come odds and Place

Bets. Added a Show All menu choice for showing the total bets on the table.

Added a Short Results toggle which displays a single dialog box giving the

total amount won and lost on the roll. Added user definable Maximum/Minimum

bets, Maximum odds, Default odds, and starting bankroll. All Down now clears

all bets that are legal to clear (all except main Pass and established Come).

Tapping the total status box toggles displaying the total as the current

amount less the bets on the table (popular request). Fixed a nasty bug that

paid incorrect amounts on the Place 6. Added those missing '$' signs. :)

0.98

Added registration within CRAPS.PRC. Added place bet options of working

on the come-out roll, and pulling them all down. A place bet will now

automatically switch to the opposite number if that number's not covered and

the point hits it (eg, if there's a place bet on the 6 and the point becomes

the six, the bet on the six will automatically move to the 8, unless there's

already a place bet there.)

0.97

Now works with Palm OS v. 1.06! Yeah!

0.95

Can now remove or change a Don't Pass line bet after point is set (but

cannot *make* the bet after a point is set).

0.9

Initial public release.
