Rome Total War - Diadochi Mod

Diadochi - Total War (Formerly XGM - Diadochi) Public Beta v0.92 This mod aims to give the Greek factions even more depth than the original XGM and vanilla RTW, to further improve historical accuracy, and to improve gameplay. Many new units have been added to the Greek factions, and other factions, along with new buildings, character traits, night battles, culture and much more.

About XGM - Diadochi

This mod aims to give the Greek factions even more depth than the original XGM and vanilla RTW, to further improve historical accuracy, and to improve gameplay. Many new units have been added to the Greek factions, and other factions, along with new buildings, character traits, night battles, culture and much more. Combat with phalanx based armies has also been made much more challenging and they are harder to beat up front, but even more vulnreable from the flanks.I have concentrated on improving the dull graphics of Rome - Total War, by completely replacing campaign, battlefield and sky textures. While many aspects of the original XGM remain, the gameplay has changed dramatically - flanking attacks are more important, battles last slightly longer and units have more stamina. I have also tried to give Diadochi a more ancient atmosphere by introducing music from various authors. Diadochi should appeal to anyone who liked the original XGM, but would also want to play a more challenging and developed version of the Greek and Barbarian factions. You really should read through this readme before starting a campaign so that you can make the most of the new features.

Acknowledgements: Thanks to DimeBagHo and Zarax for the original XGM 3, which Diadochi is based on. Thanks for Maraxus for his great help with unit textures. Also thanks to Warmaster for his faction maps, Hero SK for his help with the readme, Athenogoras for his help with unit sprites, and everyone else who has helped out with ideas and bug spotting (sorry if I missed anyone).

Permissions: Everything made by me (RedFox) is free to use in any way. If you plan to use anything in a publicly released mod then it would be nice to let me know, and give me credit, but this is not required. Some of the units are straight from the latest version of XGM, so if you plan on using an xgm unit, be sure to ask permission from DimeBagHo.

Contact: If you have questions, comments, or find a bug, you can contact me at the twcenter or post it in the Bugs & Issues thread.

Installing XGM-Diadochi

1. Start with a patched and unmodified install of RTW:BI (version 1.6) or RTW:ALX (version 1.9).

2. Run the Diadochi (xgmD) installer.

3. Run the game using the Diadochi shortcut installed on your desktop.

Mod Folder: Diadochi installs to its own mod folder and does not change any of the original game files. You can use the Diadochi shortcut to run the mod, or the original RTW shortcut to run the unmodified game. Barbarian Invasion: By default, XGM - Diadochi requires the presence of the BI executable to run. If you do not have BI installed, the game will not run.

Alexander: If you have the Alexander expansion pack installed, the Diadochi installer will automatically detect it and use the ALEX exe to run Diadochi. This enables some Alex features that are not available with the BI exe and ultimately make the game and its AI much better.

Install Options: When you run the Diadochi installer you will be presented with several options that affect game-play. You can change these by running the installer again.

Fatigue: Fatigue causes units to become tired or exhausted over time during battle. Fortunately, all units in Diadochi have more stamina, so it should be more manageable, but the AI still does not know how to manage the fatigue of its troops, so fatigue is switched off by default in Diadochi. You will be given an option to switch it on when you install it again. Changes in the fatigue setting will only affect new campaigns.

Prometheus Cities: A set of improved models for Greek and Roman cities on the strategic map.

Alexander EXE: If you have the Alexander expansion installed this option will set up Diadochi to run with the Alexander exe. This might provide better AI performance, and it will fix the "unit scattering" bug. Some BI features, including hording factions and shield wall, will not be available.

Compatibility Notes:

Diadochi requires RTW:BI 1.6 or RTW:ALX 1.9 to work.

Diadochi requires an unmodified RTW data directory to work. It probably will not work if you have installed any mod that overwrites files in the RTW data directory.

Saved games from Diadochi v0.9.0 onwards will probably work with this version of Diadochi. Saved games from older versions will not work.

Non-xgmD saved games will not work with Diadochi.

Multiplayer will only work if other players have the same version of this this mod installed.

I hope you all very much enjoy this release as very much hard work has gone into polishing it all!

- Your DTW Team
