DOD: Source - Gefreiter Josef high-res axis skin V.1.2
This is a High resolution replacement skin for the axis soldier in Day of Defeat: Source. It is TWICE the size of the default skins so make sure your computer can handle it. It has been running smoothly on a video card that is 3 years old so any modern video cards should have no problems.
I made this skin to depict as accurately as possible a mid to late war ensemble. There were literally dozens upon dozens of different uniforms used by the German armed forces and they wre mixed and matched in all kinds of configurations, so no one style is "correct". I went with the most universally recognized style, and I kept it
Wermacht (Army), not Waffen SS.
I must say I was a bit dissapointed with the default sins in DOD:S. The player model skins were a bit under-detailed, even at the default size of 1024 x 1024. There were also a few texture mapping mistakes made. I started off with the intention to simply correct these mistakes and and some small details, but that soon balloned intointo a much larger project, the result of which you see now.
* skin corrections
- corrected bad texture alignment on bottom of canteen
- corrected right front Y-strap buckle missing due to being mapped to a neutral gray spot on the skin
- corrected numerous mis-alignments between model edges and skin
