It's happened to us all before, that blank 1,000 yard stare through the computer screen with a lukewarm hot pocket and nothing to play. And if you're like me, there are times you don't have the income to drop 50$ on the hottest game of the week - and let's be honest, that raid in
World of Warcraft got old the 37th time you ran it. Well take a good lean back in your chair and check out a few of our favorite Free Games below...
A Free Game for Matrix Lovers...
When F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault and Recon) was first released, it made some serious waves in the First-Person Shooter community. The sexy physics combined with neo-like power to halt time was a pleasing (and bloody) sensory overload to the brain. In a somewhat unheard of move, Sierra and Monolith released the multiplayer component of the game completely FREE! If you haven't played F.E.A.R. Combat, we highly suggest that you do. It's gibilicious.
A Free Game for Ninja Haters...
Arrrrrrr! For you eye-patch loving mateys out there, Puzzle Pirates will quench your evil needs. Every different item you do in the game is a puzzle from bilging water, sword fighting and even commanding a fleet of warships. Or if you're more of a drunk and lazy type of brigand find your way to the nearest tavern for a hand of cards and a mug of ale. You can even spend your time decorating your hideaway with all the booty from past adventures. Ninjas should tread carefully, lest they walk the plank!
A Free Game for Pinball Wizards...
At first glance Future Pinball may appear to be some sort of level creation software, and you wouldn't be far from the truth. It's a powerful pinball creating machine that has a tremendous following of steel ball fanatics. Easily the best looking pinball I've played online, it's also totally free! Be sure to check out their website and forums for additional tables. Some of them even look like old familiar classics. 5 inserts a coin,
1 starts the game, Enter launches and shift for flippers. Go for the high score!
A Free Game for Future Raptor Pilots...
If the first thing you think of when I say "Toaster" is something you put jam on, this may not be game for you. Utilizing the Freespace 2 engine released by Volition and Interplay, Beyond the Red Line is a total conversion of the game based on the new TV show Battlestar Galactica. With tutorial missions with a person who sounds suspiciously like Starbuck and even some familiar music, fans of the show and of space simulators in general should be pleased. Frack yeah!
A Free Game for Horror Fiends...
A truly unique gameplay experience, Penumbra is a first-person horror survival game with a twist. You use your cursor as a hand to interact with the world. Tug on a door with a cursor and it comes open fast or slow depending on your motion. Pull down furniture to block doorways as you scream for your life down darkened hallways. Frictional Games really is on to something awesome here with the physics of the game; it's worth experiencing. A game best played with the lights off.
