A Gaggle of Gaming Movies from GameSpy
Our video editors have been working overtime the past couple of weeks. Since the beginning of October, we've added original gameplay videos from Call of Duty (single-player and multiplayer), Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, XIII, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Need for Speed: Underground, Tony Hawk's Underground, Maximo: Army of Zin, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Viewtiful Joe, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, SSX 3, Breakdown, Rouge Squadron III: Rebel Strike, Spawn, Armed & Dangerous, I-Ninja and Gladius. Most of these are available to the public, but we do reserve the biggest and best for FilePlanet Subscribers. --

This Week's Patches
Download Complete: FilePlanet Breaks the One Terabyte Barrier
FilePlanet hit two major milestones recently. These are a couple of the massive, long-term goals that have been relentlessly taunting me for years. They used to be so smug and cocky. Look at them now! Who's your daddy, goal? WHO'S YOUR DADDY?
Big, Hairy, Audacious Milestone #1: There are now more that 20 million gamers with a GameSpy ID, that handy little free account that gets you access to FilePlanet, GameSpy Arcade, and ForumPlanet. 20,000,000 is a big number, so it may be difficult to appreciate how massive this truly is without an example or two to put it in perspective. Try this one on for size: There are more people who can download from FilePlanet today than currently live in the New York City metropolitan area.
Big, Hairy, Audacious Milestone #2: The database of files on FilePlanet is now greater than 1 Terabyte. This lofty number is equal to 1,024 Gigabytes, 1,048,576 Megabytes, 1,073,741,824 Kilobytes, 1,099,511,627,776 Bytes, or 8,796,093,022,208 Bits of data. Need another example? If you were to burn all of this data onto CDs, it would 1,639 CDs to hold it all.
Frequent visitors to FilePlanet may have already learned about both of these milestones. That is because we've recently launched a Flash-based ticker on the FilePlanet homepage that cycles through a baker's dozen of FilePlanet statistics. Take a look at the upper right-hand corner of the page and you'll see what I am talking about. Watch it for a few seconds and you could learn:
- How many files are hosted on FilePlanet?
- How many Mods, maps and models are on FilePlanet?
- How big is the FilePlanet archive, in Gigabytes?
- How many gamers are registered members of FilePlanet?
- How many files were downloaded this week?
- How many files were downloaded yesterday?
- Who downloaded the most files yesterday?
- Who downloaded the most files this week?
- What was the most popular file this week?
- What was the most popular demo this week?
- What was the most popular movie this week?
- What was the most popular Mod this week?
- How much data was transferred this week?
So, what do you think about this selection of numbers? Are there any items we should remove from the list? Is there anything that you would like to see added? Let us know!
Guess the Number, Win a Prize
Last Week: David Willequer won the free month of the FilePlanet Subscription for having the best guess on the total number of downloads from the Halo section. The actual number is : 783,677.
This Week: In honor of the Contract J.A.C.K. multiplayer demo, I'm going to focus on the world's grooviest shooter franchise for this week's contest. I'll give a free month of the FilePlanet Subscription for the closest guess on the total number of downloads from the No One Lives Forever series on FilePlanet. Send in your guess and you could win big.
