Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is an ambitious project that seeks to redefine many of the gameplay and content aspects of the original Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Installation instructions below:
Included in this zip there are many necessary files that need to be unzipped into your ES IV: Oblivion "Data" folder, which is found in the main folder where you installed the game. Detailed instructions for new and previous users about which files they need to install are included near the bottom of this readme.
Installation:
The first thing that you need to install Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is a decompressing program such as WinZip or WinRar.
These programs will let you access the compressed files in which Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul is downloaded from internet servers. Inside each .zip or .rar file you will find several other .zip or .rar files that contain Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul's new content and .esp files.
New content files usually are .dds and .nif files, which are textures and meshes for new models. Those files with the extension .esp are the plug-in files that ES IV: Oblivion uses to change the game in accord with the specifications of each modification. These plug-ins are also called "Mods" and their essential files are always of the extension .esp.
Once you can open an Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul zip/rar file, you will see several other files inside. Some are text files that describe the list of changes that each mod accomplishes. Others are zip/rar files where I have included the main Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul .esp and optional .esp to customize your experience of ES IV: Oblivion. Finally, all content files are packed inside zip/rar files with the name of the Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul version in which they were first used.
You must extract all essential files to your /Oblivion/Data folder. This includes the main Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul .esp and all of the content files packed inside the version-named zip/rar files.
The default folder is C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion/Data/
If you are using WinZip, make sure to check the box "Use Folder Names" so that the content files are unpacked in their appropriate folders within your /Oblivion/Data folder. WinRar does this automatically for you. When the process is complete, you will see that your selected .esp and two new folders have appeared inside the /Oblivion/Data folder. The two new folders are named "textures" and "meshes." Each has its own directory structure, where all the content files are stored.
Now, the essential files are in place and you are almost ready play Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. The last step is to start your Oblivion launcher to enable the use of Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. In the Launcher menu, under "Play", you will see the button named "Data Files." Click on this button to bring up your current list of available mods. Scroll down until you find Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul .esp and check the box to its right to enable it. Hit "OK" and now you are ready to play!
