HL2 Orion Mod Available Soon on FilePlanet!
Here's a chance to strap on a jet pack inside the Half-Life 2: Orion Mod beta. Starting on Monday, Dec 7th, this sleek and futuristic FPS mod powered by the Source engine will be available to all FilePlanet users to play in the multiplayer beta.
Orion feels like a homage to popular retro FPS games like Tribes and Unreal Tournament of yesterday. David Prassel, the man behind the concept of Orion, was inspired by such games as he played Quake 2 CTF, Tribes and Counter-Strike as he set out to make his own game over a decade ago. After thousands of changes to his game and creating three different versions of it, Half-life 2: Orion mod is making its first public appearance on FilePlanet.
The multiplayer beta features a classic struggle of capture the flag for territorial control on the planet Orion. The planet Orion is as a potential replacement colony for an overburdened planet Earth. Human war spreads to Orion and you can choose from one of three class with a choice of assault, support, and sniper class each using their specific class weapons to use in battle. These breathtaking levels showcase the diverse environment on Orion with lush green valleys filled with trees, underground caverns, snowy mountains, and dry deserts supporting the intricately designed levels that are a contrast to the futuristic nature of the game.
What makes Half-Life 2 Orion Mod a mod worth looking at is the number of features developed into the game. It has a solid foundation with the multiplayer gameplay inspired by classic FPS games like Quake 2, Unreal, and Tribes. The jet packs for the Assault class are inspired by Tribes that add an aerial dimension to gameplay and fuel the futuristic feel of the game. Orion has custom weapons that support alternate fire modes, dynamic scopes or iron sights, bullet penetration, and bullet ricochet. This is just a small taste of the many features Orion will be supporting.
Orion is a mod to watch out for because the team behind it plan to pack on more wild features. Shortly after the public release, they'll do the vanilla updates adding more weapons and basic game modes like team deathmatch. By Spring 2010, a big content update will add an original gamemode, several new classes, dinosaurs, and possibly vehicles. Yeah, that's right, DINOSAURS in a multi player game! In the meantime, prepare for the Orion Mod multiplayer beta on FilePlanet out on Monday, December 7th. The team is looking for feedback on their mod and everyone is welcome to try it.

The Early Mods of Dragon Age
A new era of modifications have begun, heralded by the launch of the Dragon Age: Origins Toolset. Young naives have begun to wield this weapons power, but it's a long journey still to mastery - all the same many minor creations are filling the FilePlanet file hoard.
