DOOM 3 - ExpSpice v0.5
This is an interesting mod that tries to keep the essence of DOOM while improving many different things. Bindable flares, more gore, permanent blood and bullets, and much more all listed below!
Doom 3 is gorgeous and I was quite dissapointed that id didn't use the engine's full potential specially on weapons. Now there are lots of mods out there already but I could not find one that for one would spice Doom 3 in a good and realistic manner while keeping it balanced, and two incorporate all the great ideas out there in one single mod. This is why I made this, simply put it adds more realism, effects and balances to Doom 3, specially for the single player campaign. So what does it do?
- Lots of weapon effects (more later)
- Bindable flares that do not replace any weapons
- More powerful chaingun but balanced (more later)
- Bodies stay for longer and burn effect is slower
- More gore
- Permanent bullet casings, and shells
- Permanent blood and bullet marks
- Many small balance changes and improvements (at least IMHO :))
- Your marine bleeds and casts shadows
- Lastly to cope with the added goodies I included my cfg file that can give you medium quality fps at high quality visuals from the get go, but it can also be configured (almost doubled my fps score).
First lets give credit where credit its due, since I don't like to reinvent the wheel I took the work of other fellow modders to expedite the mod (hope they don't mind). I use the more gore effect from the Nitro Mod (just that part), the permanent blood and bullet marks come from .bog. (nice job) and finally the better chaingun lcd is from Tomato Monkey. Thanks to all.
Now for more details, keep in mind that I tried to keep the game balanced so as to not affect gameplay but rather make it more enjoyable
- Flares
You automatically acquire them so no need to enter codes
unlimited flares
Last 30 sec and you are only allowed to spawn one every 15 sec
Default bind is key '1'
The longer you hold the throw the further you throw them
I moved the fists to weapon13 slot so flares are bindable and work like the flashlight (you can return to previous weapon), fists are still selecteable
- Pistol
Has an appropriate muzzle flash
Increased the fire rate of it by 1/3
Increased slightly the firing spread
Bullets slightly light up what they hit (like sparks)
No gibbing
- Shotgun
Has a big muzzle flash
Loads bullets 1 by 1 now instead of 2 at a time
Shells permanently stay
x3 projectile mass increase
Gib allowed (oh come on is a shotgun!)
- Machine gun
Nice red muzzle flash
x2 projectile mass increase
Bullets light up what they hit (more than pistol)
slight increase in spread
bullet casing stay
tracers added
No gibbing
- Chain gun
200 ammo capacity
1/3 faster firing rate
x2 projectile mass increase
Bullets light up what they hit (white sparks)
1/3 time added to spin up and spin down
x3 time increase in reloading
better LCD to support 3 digits
small increase in recoil
1/6 increase in spread
No gibbing allowed
- Plasma gun
Nice blue glow added to the barrel
Great spark effect added to the plasma bullets
1/2 DECREASE in projectile mass (is a light weapon)
Gibbing allowed
(I had added dynamic lighting to the plasma projectiles but removed it because of the severe FPS drop suffered)
- Grenades
Slight red glow added to projectiles
decreased bounce on grenade
Increase x2 the size of the explosion
explosion flash is very bright
Grenade has a very small spread added
Grenades don't dentonate on actors
Gibbing allowed
- Rocket launcher
Muzzle flash is brilliant
added dynamic light to rocket
Increased x2 the size of the explosion
explosion flash is very bright
Slight increase in recoil
Smoke added to rockets
Gibbing allowed
- BFG
Brilliand muzzle flash
Projectile light is very bright
explosion flash is quite literally blinding
Gibbing allowed
- Bodies stay for 30 sec and burn effect is 1/2 slower
*** About the cfg ****
The first three lines of it control antialias, antistropic filtering, compression, and resolution. Modify it to suit your needs. The default is 1024x768 with no AA and 2x on antistropic filtering with compression on. The cfg turn all optimization goodies including caches and best rendering paths. Do a timedemo benchmark before and after and see the difference (almost no quality loss with almost doulbe fps).
Enjoy!
