REQUIREMENTS

============

- Half-Life dedicated server for Linux

- Counter-Strike dedicated server for Linux

Both of these programs must be installed and working on your box before you can begin using CSbot.

INSTALLATION

============

for LINUX:

- Extract csbot.tar.gz into your hlds_l/cstrike directory

- Run hlds_l/cstrike/csbot/cstrike/install.sh

Note: When running a dedicated server the HPB bot commands that are normally available from the client console screen are disabled. To create a bot you must set the CVAR "bot" to the value "addbot" (you can also provide additional parameters like as shown in the bot.cfg file). To use the "bot" CVAR you would use one of the following commands on the dedicated server command line...

bot "addbot"

bot "addbot 2 4"

bot "addbot 1 3 Da_Killer 4"

You can use the "kick" command to remove a bot. When using the dedicated server, bot will also be automatically spawn via the bot.cfg file.

Note: The Half-Life engine only supports the dedicated server version on Linux, so while you can run CSbot on your dedicated server, you will need a non-Linux machine to actually play on your dedicated Linux server. If you know otherwise, please let me know!

TWEAKING CSBOT

GENERAL: (skill levels, number of bots, etc.)

Edit the bot.cfg file in your Counter-Strike (by default C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\cstrike) directory using any text editor (e.g. Notepad). Instructions for tweaking are included within that file.

CHANGING BOT NAMES:

Edit the bot_names.txt file in your Counter-Strike (by default C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\cstrike) directory using any text editor (e.g. Notepad). The bot names can be up to 32 characters long and you can have a maximum of 100 names total. Each name should be on a separate line with no leading spaces.

CHANGING WHAT BOTS SAY:

Edit the bot_whine.txt file in your Counter-Strike (by default C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\cstrike) directory using any text editor (e.g. Notepad). You can have a maximum of 100 whining messages total. Each whining message should be on a separate line with no leading spaces.
