The music from Outlaws was nothing short of western-tastic!. Clint Bajakian received several awards for the soundtrack, and if you've heard it you'll know exactly why. Orchestral music is always hard to mix though, for many reasons, the main for me being that the pieces always change tempo/speed to give a great overall effect, and also to make adding drums a daunting task. Anna's theme was one of my favourite tracks, and it was also the most sad/emotional track in the whole soundtrack, which is why I chose it over the guitar picking themes. I wanted something slow, and when mixed, I wanted it to still have the same emotional feel, but the pace would be increased, just to mix things up :). So drum 'n' bass was the ideal style in my opinion. If you haven't played or heard Outlaws yet, I suggest you buy it and do so! The music and storyline alone are worth way more than what you'll have to pay for it.

Ok, as mentioned drum'n'bass was the way to go for this one. Lucky for me, the orchestral piece taken out from the soundtrack wasn't all that bad to add the drums to, but thats not to say it was an easy task. The size of the samples was a bit bigger than usual, and that made my P200 feel a little uneasy at times. I did leave all of the orchestral samples unedited, to leave the slow emotional touch like I said above. The intro and the end to the song was a very fun and unique experience for me, trying to create additional settings using the game's level sound samples. I'm happy with the end result, and feel it plays better as a softer background song more than anything else.
