Although the whole soundtrack to Curse of Monkey Island was so great, I did have a few favourite tunes picked out. The Barbery Coast was one of those tunes. The game had five different versions of this theme, which played when you entered the barber shop. I loved it because it was so perfectly composed and it made that part of the game a pleasure to just walk around and listen to the tunes. 'Booty Mix' was the best I could do, whether you decide to take it in the 'shake your booty' way or 'pirate booty', I don't mind, for me, it was definately both.
At first the tune sounded very simple, boy was I wrong. It's one complex piece of art. I was, however, successful in arranging the basic theme of it, and I might add, I took bits and pieces from all five versions. I stumbled across various samples that turned out to be perfect for the mix, especially the jungle type parts. The drum work here is all original, which I am very very pleased with, it might not have 'ummphh' power, but I think quality is better than quantity. I worked on this mix 12+ hours straight, and at the end made significant changes such as replacing the lead from a Bassoon to a Dyno Key. I might also add that the last thing I decided to add to the tune was the bass line, I thought I would use the acid as a bass substitute, but when I tested it with extra bass, it sounded a lot more full and pure.
