ChilliSkinner v3.0.0
This is an awesome tool to skin your 3D models. Download this if you are using 3D Studio MAX 3.x or 4.
Feature Addition(s):
22/04/01 Added Graphical User Interface. w00p!
Feature Addition(s):
22/04/01 Added Undo/Redo Support
Problem:
22/04/01 'Auto Detach' sometimes produced wrong results due to vector dot product rounding errors. This caused polys that clearly should have been grouped together to be left separate.
Status: Fixed in v3.0.0
Problem:
22/04/01 'Unfold Polys' & 'Flatten Polys' resulted in the object's bounding box to be seemingly randomly orientated. This wasn't exactly a critical problem as it was fixed later at the 'Apply Planar Map' stage.
Status: Fixed in v3.0.0 This has now been fixed so that an object's bounding box is corrected immediately after an unfold or flatten operation. This should allow these functions to be more useful even outside of the skinning procedure.
Problem:
22/04/01 'Auto Detach' can cause max to crash when used on high poly models with high 'Detach Angle' settings.
Status: Fixed in v3.0.0 'Auto Detach' uses a recursive routine to identify polys that are adjacent and whose faces are within the detach angle set by the user... in the situation described above the recursive routine could be calling itself hundreds of times building up a large poly groupings before dropping back out of the routine. MAX was running out of stack space and crashing. Have introduced a maximum number of faces that 'Auto Detach' is allowed to have in a poly grouping, after this limit ChilliSkinner will finalize and detach the poly group regardless of whether there are more faces that could potentially be added. The default for this max number of faces in a poly group is set to 300 but is user configurable in the script. Change this value at your own risk.
Problem:
22/04/01 Fixing the bounding box issue (see above) created issues with 'Attach Polys'. Basically ChilliSkinner was relying on MAX's object collections for clone and original object groups to be ordered identically. The bounding box fix routine messed this up on the original object group. Clone and original objects MUST be attached in exactly the same order for 'Morph' to work.
Status: Fixed in v3.0.0 Had to rewrite the 'Clone' function. It now makes a clone of each selected object and assigns it the same name as the parent but prefixed with 'Clone' e.g. Object01 has a clone called 'CloneObject01'. The 'Attach Polys' routine was also modified to attach objects in alphabetically by name thereby ensuring both clone and original objects are attached in exactly the same order. Thanks to Kam Lai for help on this one.
