1. Introduction

This is a patch for Dirt Track Racing - Sprint Cars (DTRSC). It can be
applied to both the USA and European versions of the game.
You should only run this patch on version 1.00, the original version
released on CD. To find out which version of the game you have, look in
the bottom right-hand corner of the game's main menu.
This version of DTRSC is incompatible with previous versions, including
the original from the CD, and the demo. Other versions will not be able
to join your multiplayer games, nor will you be able to join theirs.

- Improved multiplayer performance.
- Expanded multiplayer checksums for enhanced security.
- Added low resolution textures to the replay mode interface.
- Added the track name to the quick race results log.
- Force feedback forces are now reset after each race.
- Rotation of meshes in the interface (e. g. cars and tracks) can be
paused by holding down the right mouse button.

- Fixed various multiplayer crashes.
- Fixed replay exporting crashes.
- USA and European version players can now race against each other.
- Fixed some incorrect terrains and textures on Silver Dollar and
Lernerville.
- Fixed multiple occurrences of the same car model in listings.
- "Select Car From Saved Game" now works in multiplayer races.
- Fixed a few error messages.
- Fixed occasional incorrect logging of the track name in multiplayer
races.

It adds the following files:

data\dtrsc.rbv
It also modifies the file:

5. Pack File Extraction Issues
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you wish to extract your pack files to add on custom data, as
described in the readme for ExtractPF on the original CD, make sure you
extract the new file "patch.pf" after extracting the other pack files.
The data in "patch.pf" overrides that in the other pack files, so
extracting it after the others means that the new files extracted will
overwrite the old ones.
The "car.str" files in "store.pf" are modified by this patch. The only
change is to add the proper French and German translations to the
upgrade strings, to allow USA and European players to race together.
This will not affect any custom skins or car models you may have added.

6. Troubleshooting

Specific Problems
-----------------
If you do not hear sound while the in-game movies are playing, this may
be because you do not have an ADPCM audio codec installed. To install
the codec, go to My Computer -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
Click on the Windows Setup tab, then double-click Multimedia. Tick
Audio Compression, then click OK.
If the movies crash or do not play at all, it is possible that the Indeo
5 video playing codec has not been correctly installed. To check if it
is installed, go to My Computer -> Control Panel -> Multimedia
Properties -> Devices -> Video Compression Codecs, and look for "Indeo
video 5.10" (or greater). In Windows 2000, the codec can be found under
My Computer -> Control Panel -> Sounds and Multimedia -> Hardware ->
Video Codecs -> Properties -> Properties. If the codec has not been
installed, you will need to reinstall the game.
There is a possibility that being disconnected from a server for editing
your data during a multiplayer session could cause difficulties in
starting another multiplayer race. If so, restart your computer and the
problem should be gone. Note that this will not affect anyone who is
not trying to cheat.
General Troubleshooting
-----------------------
The following points may assist you if you are experiencing other
problems with the game.
Ensure that you have the latest drivers for your hardware - including
video card and sound card - as well as the latest version of DirectX
installed.
Some virus checkers have been observed to cause the game to crash. Try
disabling these virus checkers while the game is running. It can also
be helpful to close down any unnecessary applications before running the
game.
Look through the options available in the Options Editor. Some of them
may help you fix specific problems with the game.
If you have a Yamaha sound card, look through the FAQ for DTRSC on
www.ratbaggames.com for a number of things you can try to fix game
crashes.
If you have added data to the game, e. g. custom skins, try removing
these and see if it helps.
If you experience pausing at certain points during races, particularly
when flags begin waving, try turning off the announcer. It may be that
the game is slowing down to access the commentary off your hard disk or
CD.
If you edit your original game files, we cannot predict what might
happen. We highly recommend that you do not do so.
