Bubble Memo
To kill baddies Bibble has to capture them in a bubble and then pop
this bubble using the spines on her head, feet or back. Captured
baddies which are not popped will eventually escape, Bibble has to
recapture them and pop them in order to clear the level. If Bibble
touches an uncaptured baddy, she dies.
Bubbles can also be used to bounce on, enabling Bibble to climb to
otherwise inaccessible parts of the level. Bubbles behave differently
on some levels, Bibble needs to exploit this in order to win.
Every time a baddy is killed, a bonus letter and point bonus appear
on the screen. Collect points to increase your score, and collect to
letters to spell the word BONUS. Bibble gets an extra life when all
BONUS letters are collected, and also every 10,000 points.
Some levels contain super-power pickups which give Bibble enhanced
abilities such as Super Jump, Super Run and Super Fire. Bibble can
also collect Bubble power-ups which increase the speed, power or fire
rate of her bubbling skills. Super powers run out over time, but
bubble upgrades last until Bibble dies.
At the center of the top of the screen a small display cycles between
your current score, which BONUS letters you have, which level you are
on, and how many lives are left.
--- C O N F I G U R A T I O N ----------------------------------------
Once the game has started, press the 'OPTIONS' button to access the
configuration options.
At the top of the screen are four buttons, which select different
configuration options; 'Sound', 'Buttons', 'Greyscale' and 'Levels'.
- Sound
Tap on the arrows or directly on the volume display to control the
volume of effects and music. Use the buttons to switch the music
(but not effects) on or off.
To disable all sounds completely, set the volume to minimum.
- Buttons
Press any of the hard buttons (or tap on it's on-screen graphic) to
change it's function. There are four buttons and four functions to
control 'Left', 'Right', 'Jump' and 'Bubble'.
- Greyscale
The 'Light' and `Dark' grey levels can be adjusted independently to
suit your screen or lighting conditions. Use the 'RESET' button to
return to the default values.
- Levels
The game levels are organised in groups of five. Once you reach the
first level of a group, you can opt to skip straight back to that
level next time you start. This means that once you have got to
level 11 for example, you can choose to start each new game from
level 10. As each new group is activated, another button is
available in the 'Levels' options screen.
This feature is designed to make it possible to complete the game
without having to play solidly (and very carefully) for at least an
hour. You can ignore it completely and attempt to play from start
to finish if you think you can handle it.
NOTE: As there are only 5 levels in the demo, you will never be
able to activate this feature.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bibble Babble is inspired by the superb 80's arcade classic Bubble
Bobble by Taito. Many of the features are lifted straight from Bubble
Bobble, but some are new, or have been adapted to suit the smaller
display. The resemblance with Bubble Bobble is based on my memories of
the game, rather than being a copy of it - all of the code, levels and
graphics are original.
