F.A.Q.

Q: When will this be finished?

A: I have no idea, really. One texture takes from a few hours to over ten, so this is a huge project.

Q: Why are you working mostly from bottom up, and not from higher-tier stuff downwards?

A: Well, in addition to that it feels like logical progression, I haven't worked with traditional weapons like swords/axes/hammers much, so I learn a lot from every new texture, and I'm 100% certain the last weapons in this project will look twice better than they would have, had I started out with them.

It takes patience to wait, but you'd all rather have the high-end stuff look better than cruddy iron weapons :P

Q: How about armors?

A: Like I said previously, this is a huge project alone and I don't have any plans for armors yet. If this goes smoothly and I don't burn myself out with Skyrim modding, I might do armour retextures after this, but I can't promise anything at this point.

Q: What about the performance? Will this affect it negatively?

A: Perhaps slightly, but weapons are such a tiny part of the world, so unless you drop 100 iron swords at a location and look at all of them at the same time, I doubt you'll notice any performance drop (if even then)

Q: Are you a professional 3d artist?

A: Nope, just an experienced amateur. Been doing 3d for fun since 2004.

Q: Why are Bethesda textures so bad/low res compared to an amateur's work?

A: Actual, professional artists have deadlines, art directors and console limitations to worry about, instead of making everything crazy high res. They actually made most of the stuff at a higher resolution, then scaled down (I can tell by looking at them) due to console limitations. It's weird they didn't use the higher-res textures for PC, but such is life sometimes.
