Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Wolf Sounds For Dog Mod v1.3
This modification will replace the dog sounds with the sounds the wolves of Skyrim make. To install, drag the sound folder into your Skyrim/Data folder.
Version 1.2 - New "wolf dogs" now have eyes and barking has been removed by replacing the barking animations with other idle animations. See details below. While most of the screenshots still show the new dogs without eyes, there are several new ones with eyes. Check it out!
Version 1.3 - Added Husky retexture. See screenshot.
I have a sound file available for download that makes your new "wolf dog" sound like a wolf, not a dog. If you want to keep your dog sounds, just don't download the optional sound pack.

A huge thanks to XunAmarox for helping to make this mod more elegant! My previous attempt was crude, to say the least. Infinite thanks to XunAmarox!
This is a mesh swap that will turn all the Irish Wolfhound dogs into wolves. There are two versions, and each one has pros and cons. For both versions, there are files which remove the barking completely.
The eyeless version:
Cons - no eyes for new "wolf dogs" resulting in empty sockets in the head
Pros - animations are very smooth and natural, the wolf model uses all the dog animations
The eyed version:
Pros: "wolf dog" now have real, reflective eyes; two white wolf options, one with blue eyes and one with brown eyes
Cons: animations are not as smooth, some issues with the dog sitting, laying down animations removed and replaced with sitting ones because of animation problems, sometimes the dog's eyes will "pop out" over the eyelids, but only while animating a particular type of run (trot, I think) and only for a tiny moment. It is only noticeable if you are staring at your dog while it trots towards you. It's not that noticeable... but I know it's not perfect.
There are eight color options: four are vanilla skins (black, grey, red, and fire) and four are custom made by me (timber, white with blue or brown eyes, German Shepherd, and Siberian Husky). These skins for your dog do not affect the other wolves in the world, and changing the wolves in your world will not affect your dog (with the exception of the fire wolf). XunAmarox was a giant help with this part.
The files included for download contain all the colors (one exception, fire wolf only available in the eyeless version, as it doesn't need eyes and it animates better with all dog animations). Just pick which color you want. Only one color can be used in the game at a time. If there is a problem, let me know. Both versions have the barking removed, replaced with quieter idle animations. Dogs will still whimper, grunt, sniff, and scratch - just no more barking. Download the sound pack to replace dog noises with wolf noises.
You are free to make requests for new dogs (preferably ones that are somewhat wolf-like), but I cannot guarantee that I will be able to make them all, if any.
I suggest making your dogs essential (through mods or console commands), as this mod does not alter that aspect in any way.
If you want barking enabled, just go into Data/meshes/actors/canine/animations and delete the animations that have the word "bark" in them.

I will look into making other companion animal replacers, such as foxes instead of dogs. I know that many people would also like saber cats, but that may not be able to happen until the construction set comes out. Dogs to wolves works because of similar skeletons and animations. Replacing the dog with a saber cat would probably result in a lot of weird problems, but I will try it at some point and report back.
