Unreal Tournament 3 - Steel Halo : Imperial League

Imperial League is a first person sports experience, and is unlike traditional shooters that ask you to continually press the fire button to shoot. In fact, you will spend a good deal of your time contesting possession of the ball, so you will only rarely have it long enough to shoot repeatedly. To master Imperial League, you will need to master the repertoire of manoeuvres we give you, and be precise when you use them. Imperial League has no such parameters as stamina and health - time is the only thing that matters, and the longer you spend knocked down, the less time you will have to compete. This is a contact sport, not a combat sport, learn this discipline, and you will master more than just a sport.

Title: Steel Halo: Imperial League

Please note – on the initial launch of the game, essential shaders will need to be pre-cached, leaving the screen entirely black for sometime. Although there can be a sizeable delay, it will only happen the first time you load the game.

Developer’s note:

Steel Halo: Imperial League is still in development, and should by no means be considered complete. What you will find is the beginnings of rich experience, one that we have spent considerable time and effort crafting, and one that has yet to come close to its true potential. Many of the unique features that will eventually define Imperial League have yet to be fully implemented and are indeed absent from this build, however now that we have fashioned the game into its current form, we anticipate delivering regular updates that we trust will take us inevitably toward our goal – the creation of the ultimate first person sports experience. We hope you will share the journey with us.

:: Imperial League: Features ::

Live the most intense 1st person sports game ever! Imperial League combines the sheer athleticism of handball with brutality of wrestling for the ultimate teamplay experience.

Play as Huristar, the legendary Holy Guard of the reigning Emperor and enforcers of the Imperial Physiocracy, renowned throughout the galaxy for their unsurpassed prowess and devotion.

Compete in the marble stadiums of Urivon, the ringed homeworld of the Imperium, in arenas designed to challenge the most noble of warriors – for every Emperor is chosen from the ranks of the Huristar…

:: Rules ::

Score more goals than your opponents by throwing the ball through the goal. Use teamplay to make getting the ball easier.

:: How to play ::

Imperial League has no such parameters as stamina and health - time is the only thing that matters, and the longer you spend knocked down, the less time you’ll have to compete. This is a contact sport, not a combat sport – learn this discipline, and you will master more than just a sport.

:: To jump, simply press SPACE.

:: To LUNGE – simply click primary attack towards a target, but beware you can take out team mates if you are not careful.

:: To SLIDE tackle an opponent, press crouch, then click primary attack .

:: To attempt BOOST, hold down primary attack and walk into an team mate.

:: To FLIP, simply DOUBLE JUMP while moving forwards or backwards, or strafing left or right, and evade your pursuers.

:: To CATCH or COLLECT the ball, you must be attempting to catch – simply hold down secondary fire, and your hands will raise, but be careful – you will move slower while balancing yourself for the catch, and you’ll also take more damage if someone attacks. And if you don’t have your hands raised when the ball is thrown at you, expect to be hurt.

:: To SPRINT, hold down E, but you won’t last for long, so use it wisely and sparingly.

:: To THROW the ball, aim and tap primary attack. To curl the ball through the air, press and hold primary attack, and then look away from where you were aiming, and release – the ball will curl back towards where you initially aimed.

:: To find where the ball is, simply push Q to locate it. (Or the goals if you have the ball)

:: To PASS the ball to a teammate, simply look at them so they are selected, and then tap secondary fire – the ball will be guided directly toward your teammate.

:: To SUPER JUMP, crouch and then tap jump – be sure to aim yourself as if you are a human grenade – the higher you look, the higher you’ll leap. But if you get too much air, be sure to crouch just as you land to cushion your fall, or you’ll make a mess of yourself, and lose precious time.

:: Premise ::

The truce holds, but for how long?

The Imperium turned a blind eye to the Necris invasion. There were accusations in the Imperial Court that the Physiocracy even sanctioned the incursions. And now, civil war on Omicron 6, the Necris homeworld, has ended. No one knows for sure what happened there, but it’s clear the Necris horde is massing at the threshold of the 1000 worlds, and the citizens of the Empire are beginning to worry. The Imperial Courts have been besieged with petitions for aid and protection. All eyes have turned to the Emperor for an answer. And there has been only silence – until now.

The Huristar, legendary holy Guard to the reigning Emperor, vanguards of Imperial insurgency throughout the 1000 worlds, have been mobilised. But not against the Necris.

The Imperium has responded not with military hostilities, but with a more subtle show of force – the Huristar, once kept hidden from the public’s eye, now compete openly against each other in the game of Steel Halo for the glory of the empire. On marble arenas throughout Urivon, homeworld of the Imperial Physiocracy, the Huristar parade their legendary prowess in noble contest, a defiant gesture of the real strength of the Empire. And the citizens love it.

Political opponents have been baffled by the move, labelling it as provocation, a diversion, or even as an outright sign of incompetence against the Necris threat. There are whispers of a Necris plot to infect Huristar with nano-black...dark rumours that disgraced Huristar were harvested by the Necris in the outlawed Commons League, but they somehow rejected the Necris process...

The Imperium’s response has been watched very closely by the Necris, and the Huristar’s, their heads shaped like halos from the hole they bore through their own skulls as a sign of their total devotion, enthral and delight the citizens of the Empire with their zeal, their loyalty, and their might.

For they are Huristar.

Holy Guard of the Emperor.

Vanguards of Imperial Insurgency.

For them, reality is perfect.

All wars are just.

Life is the only Law, and Death there only duty.

For they are Huristar.

:: Known bugs/Issues ::

AI is not yet implemented, so while the bots can be added to the game, they just stand around.

The model was unfortunately not completed in time for the phase 4 submission, so we have used just a default unreal character as a place holder for now
