2. Ok I downloaded this "thing" but what is it exactly?
Ancient Tales is our first step at making an RPG Total Conversion for Unreal Tournament 3. Current build is pretty much a prototype of the basic systems we've managed to implement but I dare to say it's in pretty good shape considering we've only been developing it for a month now. I know, I know you don't care how long we've been building this and what we went through in the process. You've spent your precious time downloading the darn thing and you're only interested in getting your hands dirty with slashing NPCs and gaining levels. I don't intend to stop you :). So... fasten your seat belts and prepare for a ride...
3. How to install AncientTales?
Unrar the AncientTales.rar and place the folder AncientTales in your X:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3. Inside the folder you will find a shortcut to AncientTales. In order to play the MOD you must right click the shortcut and change two lines that look like this:
"C:\Gry\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe" so that the path points to the directory in which you installed Unreal Tournament 3. For example if you installed UT3 to C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\
than your path should look like this: "C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe".
IMPORTANT! Only change the path in the shortcut and DO NOT remove the -mod=..\AncientTales additional string as the MOD will not load without it. If everything went smooth you should have following line in your shortcut:
"X:\[My folder]\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe" -mod=..\AncientTales
4. Ok I Installed it but how the heck do I play it?
Go to the room in front of you (press either 'W' OR 'Up' OR BOTH mouse buttons at the same time and hold them to move forward. When you walk in to the room press 'SpaceBar' to begin combat. Than use the menu to your right to choose combat actions for your character to perform. In the upper left corner is a placeholder for your portrait and two bars, green and red. Green represents your action points (you gain action points each round and you spend them by using combat actions). The red bar is your health. Keep an eye on it, so it doesn't get to low.
5. Some closing thought which probably nobody's going to read anyway ;)
If your played the MOD and you enjoyed it that's GREAT. The greatest pleasure in creating anything is to see people enjoying it :). If on the other hand you disliked it and you think it's a piece of crap please note that it's a VERY early version of the MOD. We spend most of our time developing it and we do plan to improve it. The next build planned for the first half of November this year will be a completly different animal as we're going to improve the character development system (you're going to be able to set all your character attributes and choose new skills as you please), introduce a new class (it's going to be... ehhh no, it's a secret), a complete RPG styled map with a non-combat zone where you'll be able to talk with some interesting characters, sell and buy equipment and of course some very creepy combat areas where you'll have the occasion to fight hordes of monsters, complete quests and grab lots of goods. If you read it this far I guess we will meet again in Novemeber :).
