KoolKode v2.00 Details
KoolKode is a program that can be used to securely encode and decode messages. There are two types of encryption to choose from. The first is using an "Encryption Key" which is just a string of characters chosen when encoding, and you need to know the key to be able to decode the message. The second method is using a "Custom Code" which can be created by the user, in the form of a specially formatted text file. There are some sample custom codes included in the download package.

Introduction
------------
KoolKode is a program that can be used to securely encode and decode messages. There are two types of encryption to choose from. The first is using an "Encryption Key" which is just a string of characters chosen when encoding, and you need to know the key to be able to decode the message. The second method is using a "Custom Code" which can either be one of the samples included in the KoolKode download package, or a code written by you or sent to you by a friend.

The Encryption Key option
-------------------------
To use an encryption key click the "Encryption Key" option button and then enter your encryption key in the text box to the right. The key is case-sensitive and every character (including spaces) makes a big difference. It can also be any length you want. If you encode a message using an encryption key, it can then only be decoded with KoolKode if exactly the same encryption key is entered when decoding it.

The Custom Code option
----------------------
To use a custom code click the "Custom Code" option button and then select a code from the drop-down menu to the right. Some sample custom codes are included in the KoolKode download package but you can also make up your own (see "Creating a custom code" below) or download more from a website or a friend. Custom codes can be made to encode as few or as many characters as you wish. You could make one that only encodes the letters of the alphabet but nothing else or you could make one that encodes all letters, numbers and symbols - it's up to you.

Encoding and decoding messages
------------------------------
The text box at the top of the KoolKode window (hotkey ALT-T) is for normal, non-encrypted text and the text box at the bottom of the window (hotkey ALT-X) is for encoded text. First, choose your code (as explained above). Then click the "Encode" button (or the green arrow pointing downwards) to have KoolKode read the text in the top text box and fill the bottom text box with the encoded version, or click the "Decode" button (or the green arrow pointing upwards) to decode the text in the bottom text box and have the decoded version appear in the top text box.

If the "Auto" box is ticked, text will automatically be encoded or decoded (depending on which text box you type in) as you enter it.

Loading and saving text
-----------------------
There are four load/save buttons:
"Load Normal Text" - Loads a normal text file and places the contents in the top text box, to encode
"Load Encoded Text" - Loads a file containing encoded text and places the contents in the bottom text box, to decode
"Save Normal Text" - Saves the contents of the top text box to file
"Save Encoded Text" - Saves the contents of the bottom text box to file

Creating a custom code
----------------------
To create a custom code, all you need is a text editor, such as Notepad. Create a file with the extension ".kod" in your KoolKode folder. The part of the filename before the "." will become the name displayed in the "Custom Code" drop-down menu in KoolKode. In the KOD file, use a new line for each character you wish to remap and enter the lines in the following format:
Syntax: x=y
Variables: x - the ASCII code of the character to wish to remap
y - the ASCII code of the character to wish to remap x to
Example: 65=48
Causes "A" (ASCII code 65) to become "0" (ASCII code 48) when encoded.

Here are some ASCII codes that may help you:

A 65 a 97 0 48
