Quake - Spacewalk mod v1.0

SpaceWalk is CocoT's new Quake1 mod. In this 3D version of the freeware puzzle "Stroke", players have to walk on colored platforms and solve each map's puzzle while picking up artifacts.

First of all, let me make clear that SpaceWalk really does not have anything to do with my other Quake1 mod Transloquake. Granted, it has platforms, uses nice skyboxes and the aim for players is to grab specific items on the level, but that's really just about it. While to be good at Transloquake players mainly need good aiming and jumping skills, SpaceWalk is a "pure" puzzle game. Play both and you'll see they're completely different things :-)

A second important note to be made is that the mod is, as far as I know, compatible only with Darkplaces. Make sure you use it. Using other engines will make the mod react in very strange ways.

Directly inspired by an excellent little japanese freeware 2D-game called "Stroke" (whose official website has unfortunately disappeared), SpaceWalk challenges players with increasingly difficult puzzles. The goal of SpaceWalk to give homage to that freeware. All credits for its concept should of course be given to its author. Some of the mod's maps are directly inspired by original "Stroke" layouts, others have specific StarWalk layouts.

The aim of the game is, while walking on platforms, to turn on all the "starlights" (see pictures below), then reach the final platform (recognizable by its blue color) to end the level. The "catch" is that, unless the platform you are walking onto is special (we'll come to that in a moment), you only have the right to step on it once. In other words, you always have to be careful not to create a situation in which you block yourself or block your way to a future move.

The amount of starlights to turn on vary from level to level. You'll also notice that platforms come in different colors. Here is a list of them:

- YELLOW platforms : the default ones, can only be stepped on once. They turn red after being stepped on.

- BLUE platforms : the final ones, stepping on them after touching all starlights is the only way to end the level. They can be stepped on as many times as you want.

- GREEN platforms : these can be stepped on as many times as you want!

- WHITE platforms : these can be stepped on twice. They will turn yellow the first time you walk on them, then red.

- ORANGE platforms : these work as teleporters, they can be stepped on as many times as you want. Notice that they can take a couple of seconds to teleport you where you want to go. Notice, too, that if you stand too long on one, you will automatically be teleported back to the other corresponding orange platform.

- BLACK or PURPLE platforms : these are transparent and non-solid platforms that will turn into yellow, walkable platforms only when you pick up the corresponding black or purple unlocker (see below).

Be aware that, once a platform turns red, you are not only not allowed to step back on it, but you also have to step onto another platform quickly after, as it will eventually disappear and, if you have not left it, you will fall into space and die.

Also be careful not to jump. Jumping on a red platform will automatically kill you. Trying to jump across space onto a remote platform will also kill you.

There is an extra item that you can pick up on SpaceWalk levels, one that is called the "hourglass" (see picture below). Once you touch it, you have the right to step onto all walkable platforms for 10 seconds without activating them.
