File Info: Transloquake Demo 1
Description: Transloquake Demo 1
This is a pre-release demo and mapping pack of Transloquake, an upcoming Quake1 modification by me, CocoT.This pack was released on the 29th of May 2007 with the intent to give people a little peek at what Transloquake is going to be like as well as offer, through the map sources and this documentation, information about how to map for this mod, which entities it will be using, etc. It is already playable, but obviously some of its parameters (models, sounds, maps) still need to be polished.
Obviously, this is thus far from the finished product. The first official release will contain at least 8 maps (not counting bonus ones). For more info on that, I'd like to point to you the two following resources:
1 - The Transloquake thread on Inside3D (where the first screenshots of the mod were posted) : http://forums.inside3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=610
2 - My site, http://www.planetquake.com/cocot, now also reachable via http://www.planetcocot.net
To make a long story short, TRANSLOQUAKE is a single-player mod in which your translocator is the only "weapon" you'll use. The aim of the game is to translocate upon platforms that are scattered high above and below you, and catch different kinds of bonuses. Each level has a particular amount of keys which you have to grab in order to finish the level and get access to the next. Translocators have various strength modes, so that you'll need to master them in order to get exactly where you want.
Besides the difficulty of aiming right and translocating at the right moment, levels also offers various hazards which make your task harder and harder. Obviously, one of the main issues is that, if you miss a platform, you might end up falling a long way and have to restart your climb from down below again (if you're lucky enough not to fall, say, in lava ;-)
A couple of variations to the original rules are also being coded. They will probably be accessible to players as they progress from level to level.
This first demo includes two maps, one is the tutorial for the mod, the other a bonus map.
I definitely encourage you to go through the tutorial map, which will teach you all the basic info you need to know in order to play the bonus map and, eventually, all the maps of the upcoming full release. If you don’t feel like playing it, you can also just watch the demo of me going through it :)
The bonus map, which uses a timer, is somewhat different from the “regular” maps you’ll find in the full release, but will be a good training ground until then...
