This is a small utility program which will automatically convert .bmp screenshot files made by UT, UT2003 or UT2004 to smaller .jpg files.
The UTScreenCaptureConverter is a small utility program which will automatically convert bmp screenshot files made by UT, UT2003, or UT2004 to smaller jpg files. You can convert and leave the files in your system folder, or convert and move them to a directory of your choice, or just move them.
This version adds support for UT2004 and UT2004 Demo. In UT2004 Screenshots in the demo are stored in the ScreenShots folder intead of the system folder as in UT2003 and UT. This version also supports the ability to check the Granite Mountain Software server to see if an updated version of the UTScreenCaptureConverter is available. This can be done automatically each time the application is started, or anytime you click the link. The application will NOT auto install the update; it will just take you to the site where you can download it manually. To use this feature, click the "Check for Updates" link or choose the "Check for Updates" option from the help menu. If you wish the application to automatically check for updates each time it is run, select the "Automatically check for updates" item on the Help menu. This is a totally optional feature.
No installation is necessary. Simply copy the contents of this zip file to the system folder in your UT/UT2003/UT2004 directory. The application will auto configure itself for you. If you want to run the UT Screen Capture Converter from another directory you certainly can, but may have to set some configuration settings. If you have multiple version of UT, such as both UT and UT2003 (like I do), it is usually easiest to place a copy in each system folders. If you choose not to, you will simply have to change the gametype to switch between the different flavors of UT.
Currently, the UT Screen Capture Converter is using minimal jpg compression for the best quality images. A future revision may support adjustable compression if there is enough of a demand for it.
This utility also has the ability to rename the generic shot0000.bmp, shot0001.bmp, etc file names to a date time stamp representing the time the screen capture file was written. Some examples are 12-05-2002_112303.jpg, 12-05-2002_115632.jpg. The format for the renamed file is --_<2 digit hour><2 digit minute><2 digit second>.
