INFORMATION - MAPS REQUIRES REGISTERED QUAKE V.1.01 OR HIGHER, DOS or WIN95

Title : Spawn City/Water World

Filename : tef_sc.map/tef_ww.map

Author : T. H. Johansen (TJ)

Email Address : [email protected]

Description : A "double pack" archive, containing two linked

levels with additional files bound in a .pak file

for simple loading.

QUICK LOADING INSTRUCTIONS: To play these two levels,

put the supplied pak0.pak file in a directory directly

under your Quake directory, for instance \quake\tefdbl\,

and start quake at the DOS prompt by typing:

quake -game tefdbl +map tef_sc

which will load map no. 1 (of the 2 enclosed).

Please read the "loading information" section below

for more comprehensive instructions, if needed.

----------------------------------------------------

Spawn City: Large area enclosed by a surrounding metallic

structure. If playing with the Quake CD

in drive, the level will be playing track no. 4.

Water World: Central hub and mountain/cave structures,

with lots of water and hideous traps; tread carefully!

Plays CD track no. 10.

These levels can be played in all modes, including

single player, cooperative and deathmatch play.

Single player mode may be played on two different

skill levels (SKILL 0 and SKILL 1).

Special entities were implemented to suit

multiplayer style in both maps. Enjoy!

-------------------------------------------

The story for this double pack is the following:

-------------------------------------------

After slipping through the teleporter and away

from the Slime Ground you were in, you face new

challenges. You find yourself in a metallic room

with a door and lights in front of you. You realize

suddenly that you have seen this place somewhere

before...but where?

You remember now. In the archives of the IIA, where

you often had scanned through their libraries of

hellholes that should have been eradicated. And one

of these places you were specifically warned about,

a city-like hole where agents had tried to conquer

before, but never have succeeded. So now the IIA

has shown their mercy once again, and sent YOU here.

You can recall what they warned you about. This

place is filled with nasties that like to encircle

their "visitors" with puzzling riddles and dangerous

traps and creatures everywhere. You prepare yourself

for The Riddles of Spawn City. Your task is to get out

of this place and find the key to the lands beyond.

And beyond lies the tales of Water World...and the path to

your freedom?

Additional Credits to : Id Software, without whom there would be no Quake.

Major idea for the design behind "Water World"

suggested by Stig Muren, thanks!

Water World's new monster cast is due to the great

work of these people:

"Willy the Spider": Author: Ken Turner

"The Manga Babe" : Author: Ludovic Texier

"Snake Man" : Author: Bubbah, aka. Tan Sian Yue

and parts of qc by Coyote

For more info on these creatures (the monsters, I mean),

see the textfiles enclosed in this .zip archive. I highly

recommend the use of these new monsters in your maps. It

makes Quake even more enjoyable, and it's refreshing too!

* Technical documentation *

The Manga babe, Snakeman and Willy the spider monsters didn't originally have any

"1st sight" sounds, so I modified the ai.qc, snakeman.qc and spider.qc files

to implement some sounds for these monsters (to make things a little scarier :)).

Also, no death messages were originally implemented for these monsters, so

I modified the client.qc file to make some messages appear as well. Everything is

compiled into the progs.dat file, so no need to worry about it.

* Loading information *

To load these maps, you should do the following:

- Create a directory off of your Quake directory, say \tefdbl\, and put

the .pak file in this directory.

- In DOS, type: quake -game tefdbl (+skill 0) +map tef_sc

The parameter, "+skill 0", should ONLY be typed if you want to play these

maps on the EASY setting. If you wish to play them on the "normal" skill level,

DO NOT type "+skill 0". If you put the .pak file in a directory other than "tefdbl",

make sure you replace "tefdbl" above with your own directory name.

It's also possible to rename the "pak0.pak" to "pak2.pak" and put it

directly in the \quake\id1\ directory. You then won't need to supply any

"-game tefdbl" parameter, because Quake will find the .pak file auto-

matically! (Not really recommended, you may mess up your /id1/ directory).

When you have completed "Spawn City" you will enter the

teleporter and automatically be taken to the next level called

"Water World". Be prepared to meet some quite unusual creatures!

Monster count: Spawn City: Skill 0: 39

Skill 1: 48

Water World: Skill 0: 31

Skill 1: 47

Good luck, play on normal skill (skill 1 or higher) for maximum fun

and don't cheat!
