Follow this checklist to ensure a smooth ride.
Check the requirements. If you want to run on Windows 2000, read our note to Windows 2000 and XP users
Install DirectX 8.1b Runtime. Note: You do not need to install DirectX 8.1b if you are running Windows XP.
Install Windows Media Player 7.1 or later if you want to play your favourite mp3 files and recompressed video files. Note: You do not need to install Windows Media Player 7.1 if you are running Windows XP.
Get the correct drivers for your video capture card (the ones that came with your card may not be the latest) from the manufacturer's website: Hauppauge/WinTV, ATI or Matrox, and read our configuration notes about installing new capture card drivers.
Note: Make sure you run 'ShowShifter in Safe Mode' option (Start>Programs>ShowShifter>ShowShifter in safe mode) in order to select which card you want to use for capture. Starting in Safe Mode prevents ShowShifter detecting your old drivers.
Make sure you have a DVD drive and a compatible DVD MPEG2 decoder installed if you would like to play DVDs. ShowShifter comes with PicVideo's MJPEG, DivX™ and Windows Media 8 codecs, but you can install your own favourite capable real-time codec if you prefer. You can find out more about PicVideo's MJPEG codec at www.jpg.com. If you get good results with another one, then let us know. ShowShifter works with any Windows compatible VCM codec, so use the one you like best.
The ShowShifter Pro option (included in the ShowShifter download) provides the DivX Pro™ MPEG4 codec. To use DivX Pro™ in ShowShifter, make sure you have a DivX Pro™ activation code. When you buy ShowShifter Pro or upgrade to ShowShifter Pro you will be given a DivX Pro™ serial number. You must register DivX Pro™ using the serial number in order to generate an activation code. Without a valid activation code you will not able to use DivX Pro™ functionality within ShowShifter. If you want to upgrade your current version of ShowShifter to use this integrated DivX™ functionality then check out our Shop page. Follow the instructions in 'Readme.html' which is included with the setup program. This file will be displayed when setup finishes.
